Wondering if there are any flashlights that are ‘overbuilt’. What I mean is that the whole flashlight is made up of lots of aluminium so thick that its heavy and has great heat sinking. An example would be the NWK 750N1 or the 550N3. Like really really beefy flashlights. IDC for either hosts or complete lights I am looking a single emitter light but i’ll take 3 emitters max
HDS lights are supposedly very conservatively driven. Like only 200 lumens or so. But they use a LOT of aluminum. This makes them quite durable. In testing HDS, supposedly the developer threw the light down onto concrete from 30 feet up. Repeatedly. Did it non-stop for something like an hour. It got banged up but still worked fine.
Durability and reliability is the main selling point of HDS, but it isn’t cheap. Expect a typical HDS light to cost a few hundred dollars. And they’re not small. A 1xCR123 HDS is bigger than a 1x18650 Zebralight SC62.
You know, thats a really expensive flashlight and it doesn’t actually has cooling fins. Armytek is beefy too but I don’t really dig the design. I need something with lots of cooling fins but not of the trustfire types.
