Lowes Deal Alerts & Discussion Thread

argghhhhh. went in Lowes Memorial Day weekend and all 60 watters were gone but of course...only 40 watters on the shelves...the crappy 40's apparently noone wants.. SHIXXXTskys!

Thanks! Ordered a bunch!

I was just in my Lowes, they had been raised up to $24.98, but now they are all gone! Either they went on clearance or they got pulled. There used to be 10 of the thumb wheels, they never sold a single one.

I was in another Lowes today and they still had them on display for 19.98. I talked to the tool guy about the price going back up and he said yeah, they didn’t sell. He has 15 cases of them on the overhead. He also said he bought 5 last Christmas for presents. Everybody LOVES ’em

EDIT: I forgot to mention that he said that after they were reduced to 9.98 and before they went back up to 19.98, they had them for 7.75 and still they did not sell.
So I am really wondering what happen to all the ones in my hometown store?

I also saw these new work lights. I didn’t get one as I already have plenty, but they looked really nice.

I will check them out further later, didn’t have time today.

In case you didn’t see my post in another thread. Lowes is fire sailing all of their Crown brand chemicals because they will no longer carry them. Sale prices until May 30th.

They had a gallon of MEK for $1.80 locally until they sold out.

Thanks to your post and ONLY your post I was able to score some deals on Crown solvents. Last week 1 Lowes I was in only had 1 Crown product, that being a gallon of Acetone for $6.60. Later that day I needed it! I was using some Super Glue and and spilled it all over the palm of my hand. An Acetone soak removed it.

Yesterday I came across some gallons of Lacquer Thinner and got those for $3.60. Makes and excellent degreaser and cleaner, however it can attack some plastics.

Today at my local Lowes, which up to now was not discounting Crown, had some UNPOSTED deals.

They all rang up 80 to 90% off.

15 gallons of expensive specialty solvents for $50

I didn’t get as good a price as you did on the M.E.K., paid $5.50, not $1.80 as you did :_(

FYI, the Lowe's LED bulbs have been changed recently which may be why the price has recently lowered?

On my first trip in, I bought two of the 60W equivalent bulbs to test. I was happy with them and went back for more, only to find that they had restocked, and the new 60W bulbs aren't the same. The first pair I purchased were 9.9W with a heavy metal heatsink base. The later bulbs are rated at 9.5W and have completely skipped the heatsink. They now have a standard plastic collar where the heat sink used to be, and weigh about half as much. The 75W-equivalent bulbs still have the heavy heat-sink base, but they are about $12/each.

The light is still nice, with a decent temp, but I'm not happy with the change, and am worried about emitter longevity.

Mini Review:

I purchased these to replace the CFLs in my garage/workshop lights. My lighting is two single-bulb ceiling fixtures; I was using 2x of the 23W 100W-equivalent CFL bulbs per fixture, with the help of splitters. I replaced the CFLs with the LED bulbs, but was disappointed with the brightness in this application. The 4x LED bulbs were still significantly dimmer than the CFLs, and were insufficient in this application. My eventual plan is to add a third fixture, to allow additional bulbs to be installed, once done, I should be able to swap over to the LED lights, and get more light than the CFLs can provide.

I believe that my store has both types (with and without heatsink), but I thought I only noticed it on the 40w equivalents. I'll have to take a look, but the ones I'm using without heatsink (with plastic collar) have been going strong - though I think these are the 40w equivalents. (My pic in post#111 shows the 40w's in both type.)

I did recently install 4 more Utilitech 40w equivalents (I think the plastic collar type) and noticed flickering (almost like low PWM). I was afraid I was going to have to return them, but after letting them "burn in" a day or two of normal use they seem fine.

Odd... I've not noticed that, but I've only purchased the 60W variety. I assume your line voltage is okay?

As far as I know. I didn't notice any issues with any other bulbs.

Its just food for thought, but I saw a youtube teardown (I think it was a cree bulb) where the OP mentioned that the new cheaper bulb came with a lousy guarantee compared to its substantially better constructed predecessor. The cheap bulbs are only a few bucks, but you might want to read the labels before you purchase.

The guarantee isn’t worth much anyway. I just had one of the original (better) CREE’s blow and I would have to send it back. If I had paid $22 I may have considered it but they can be had so cheaply now, why bother?

I stopped in Lowes today to pay my Lowes Credit Card balance. With the low prices I get it was only about $20 for last month

I did spend about $16 today though, this is what I found on clearance.

These are E27 sockets that are meant to screw into an outdoor electrical box. These are made of metal.

This item is actually pretty cool. If you have an outdoor box that contains a duplex outlet AND switch, this plate has a weather proof door for the outlet and behind the red lever there is a cam that will actuate the toggle switch. Waterproof.

This is a landscape spotlight that runs on 12V. I didn’t get the shot showing the price but they are marked down from 14.97 to $3.74. Included in the package is a 20W halogen MR16 bulb (who cares), but the 20W bulb is sold separately also for $6.98. LED MR16’s of course plug right in. Not a good idea to use one with anything more than a couple of watts though as there is nowhere for the heat to go.

These units are very well made and are waterproof.

Glass lense and rubber waterproof gasket.

Clamp on connector for the 12V wire, this connector is very sturdy and is of much better quality than some I have seen.

80W Mercury Vapor Lamp marked down from $16 to $2.49. A sign of the times?

250W heat lamp bulbs. Stop and think about it, these bulbs are purposely made so that they emit infrared light. As a light source they are very inefficient!
First time I was in a hotel with heat lamps in the bathroom ceiling I decided that I MUST have these in out bathroom. Nothing like infrared heat from above when stepping out of the shower.

I wonder how those infrared heat lamps compare to the infrared coming out of certain high powered lasers without filters.

I saw a display case full of the 40 watt LEDs for $1.98 each yesterday. The 60 watts were still $8 or $9, but I didn’t pick up either one. I agree, 40 watts are too dim for my liking and 60 watts are still too expensive.

But I did get some swivel sockets for 3/8 drive at 90 cents per socket

I also found some extension bars real cheap.

In all I had to go to 3 separate Stores to find all sockets to make complete sets for both metric AND English. With 7 sockets per set and 90 cents each I got 2 complete sets of metric and 3 complete sets of English, $5.60 per set. That compares to the regular price of 24.95 and the current clearance price of 19.95

EDIT:
I just noticed the regular price of the full set of SAE (English) was $34.95!

^ Nice alert. Thanks.

I've been trying to swing by a Lowes for some sockets, but haven't had a chance. Will be hitting one after work today if all goes well.

I went this morning. I got quite a bit as an employee was changing stickers for prices. Apparently corporate made a mistake and they are correcting the prices. The lady took the old prices off and put them on the items I was buying and told the cashier to honor the prices for the items. The cashier had to manually change the price of everything I bought. Unfortunately, they were already out of all of the extensions.

When I did my trek yesterday I visited 4 different Lowes. 3 actually, one had closed up. :frowning: Never saw that before.

Then at another site, there was Lowes right next to a Loews. (Movie Theater)

If anybody finds some of the extensions for the really cheap sales price and you don’t need ALL of them on the shelf, please purchase extra and I’ll buy them from you. I will take 1/4” but mor interested in 3/8” and 1/2”
