Is there a source somewhere for the PC Rebel on something small and round, like a 12, 14, or 16mm base?
(I know I can get them on a 10mm square (Luxeonstar) or 20mm star (LEDTech))
Or, what empty base do they fit on and where might I find it? I can warm up the heat gun
I have not seen anything other than 20mm and a 10x10mm square board for the Rebel. A 16mm base can probably be made by filing/sanding down a 20mm one.
Actually I have quite a stash of 20mm Rebel Sinkpads and I'm not at all going to use them all. If you are interested I can sell you some for what I paid for them (if I remember well 0.70 cents/piece) plus shipping (2.20 dollar to the US).
I have some 20mm boards also, i am lazy/reluctant to start filing on them, not sure how much I can remove without hitting a trace that I don’t want to file away.
I’m hoping someplace sells Rebels mounted. Or even any appropriate bases I can learn hot air work on, in 12-16mm intermediate sizes.
I tried a Luxeon Z a while ago, but making a copper board for them was a pain. I still have the little cyan luxeon z flashlight, gives a ton of light :-)
I just ordered a triple Luxeon deep red mounted on a direct thermal path SinkPad II. Deep Red Rebel
It says max current 700mA, but also states that “Higher drive currents may be possible, but will require careful design of a suitable cooling system.”
I plan to run this DTP triple in an S2+ with a copper heatsink, and was wondering how high in current I can take it.
I have one of these leds and did a quick output test on a Rebel Sinkpad before doing the mod at the time. I never documented it but I think I remember that just like most colour leds 1.5A is a sweetspot, over 2A the output already drops.
I have three from rapid led on aluminium stars but only two are in lights. One is mounted in a 502b @ 1400ma and the other is in a JacobA60 at either 1750 or 2100ma. They have held up fine but can’t see lumen benefit from a ceiling bounce test. Both of mine are single mode lights with 7135 based drivers.
So how many color emitters — in serial, and how many in parallel — would work and be enough to avoid blowing them up, feeding power through with a single li-ion and FET?
I probably need to just start blowing a few up to get this into my dense head, but any forewarnings would help.
I guess it depends on the cell you use. For three emitters to n parallel, you’d wan 4,5-5A max, so would need a real crappy 18650 with a protection circuit. I’m not sure what an 18350 would put out on DD, it could be the answer. Make my light an S2+ shorty.
Lifepo4 might be your answer. I used one to DD a PT54 red at about 8A. Don’t know about now but Tenergy did offer 3 different capicity/output cells. Typically high capacity Lifepo4 cells offer lower amperage output. Find some spec info. HTH
I posted my build for a Rebel deep red triple in the mod thread, but figured I should add the beam shots to rollinstone’s thread on coloured rebel emitters for thread integrity. It’s running at 4.5A.
The deep red rebels are a bright cherry red as compared to the orange red of the XP-E2. These are nice emitters and pack a lot of light. I don’t know why everyone is a afraid to try a non Cree LED.
