BLF Ti - post your pics and specs

For Titanium to have the desired spring properties, it needs some Nickle in it’s alloy. Standard grades of Ti seem to not hold spring tension well as it can’t be hardened to any real degree. This is why a SS clip is so often used. Or, in the case of EDC knives, a machined Ti clip that is much thicker and robust.

I re-bored and threaded the holes in mine for larger screws, shaped the clip a little better to fit the curve and got it bolted on nice and tight. Ulitimately, I’ll probably remove the clip though and use a leather belt sheath, maybe in elephant or ray skin (rey skin? lol)

I think the issue with the stock clip shape is (ignoring the hole mounting alignment on the body as it doesn’t affect function, only visuals). Is when clipped to something like a pocket, it makes the clip stick out and away from the body, the little flick on the end sticks out even further.

I Found the clip to be nice and stiff but when I worked with it with my bare hands I found it bent too easily and did not spring back. Bad choice in alloy I guess. Also, after the clip was shortened, it works well for this light and the convoy s2+ 18350. Too bad it’s too short for all my other applications.

I had the same experience as Chicken Drumstick with the switch. It took several adjustments of the switch body position before everything was tight and the light would tailstand. Seems to be better without the rubber boot under the button.

Is it a 16 or 14mm boot? My switch assembly is a prebuilt unit, aluminum shell, with whit plastic switch. I was hoping for something more serviceable, like a Convoy switch assembly. Could this work if a retaining ring was fabricated?

Can anyone comment on the 18650 battery fit into the tube with the switch?

The reflector version and the triple version are about the same length. (using the shorter 11mm S2+ reflector, reduced slightly in diameter) The spring side of the driver is 11 or 12 threads into the head on both versions. The battery protrudes into the head this distance.

I used very short springs on the driver, but a button might be better.

Thanks for the info. Can you do me a favor? Press down on the 18350 and let me know how far into the body (with switch) it can go?

Sure thing, Gunga. My 18350 AW battery protrudes about 6mm above the top of the body. My Efest purple is about 1mm longer - it fits but is a bit too tight. The red Efest 16340 fits also, with a little sleeve made from shrink tube. It is almost level with the top of the body.

It is true, the 18350s are a tight fit.

Ah yes, thanks. I was worried I would have issues because the battery does not fit into the tube (gets caught on switch threads) but I guess that is normal.

Oh well. The pills are smaller and the threads are sloppy. It allows them to fit this light as well as the convoy S2+. The convoy pill does not fit the Reylight. Too bad, I have a new daughter now so newborn hours don’t give me enough time for modding. Maybe in a few weeks or perhaps I can squeeze in a few things here and there.

Overall I’m semi-satisfied. My expectations were unreasonably high. I was hoping for better finishing etc. My threads are sloppy (like a Sinner ti) which is acceptable. The engraving on my tailcap button is off centre, I had no boot in my kit and my switch is sloppy (rattles around) due to a lack of boot; it’s also not waterproof. I have a bunch of spare buttons so will see what fits.

The bolts not being drilled properly (ie no radius to the bolts, just straight in) is annoying since I’m OCD. The finishing is a bit spotty on one of my lights. Minor marks on the surface.

The clip is well finished, and the OCD fixed ones look great. Too bad they are so short and the material has so little springiness. I can only use about 3 of my 7 clips.

Overall, a great VALUE, but not great for OCD folks like me. Worth it, yes, but with annoyances.

Congrats on the daughter. It’s a life-changing event for sure! Enjoy and cherish every minute and take lots of pictures, because they grow up way too fast!

Thanks! I know! She’s quite the precious (and LOUD) gem!

Nobody else get their Ti yet? Or is this thread not appealing to other owners?

Anyhow, have just ordered up 9 more trits for mine, as I’d only done the tailcap so far. Will post pics once they arrive.

Mine has not arrived, I will gladly post pictures when it is there!

I will post pictures when my Norland glue arrives and I can stick the trits in.

I'm totally interested. I will add to the commentary when l have something to add.

Rey could not get it with aligned holes so the wait was fruitless. That’s how it goes sometimes. Mine’s still waiting in HK.

You mean the clip screws?

No, the circle of holes.

The LD-2 drivers should keep you occupied in the meantime!

Note. The Fenix or 4sevens reverse clicky boots seem to work well. Spring action is good and water proof nes should improve. It’s not wide enough to be sealed via the retaining ring but it’s pretty good. It requires no trimming and helps eliminate button rattle.

I’ll see if any other boot is better.
