Just wondering do we need them when using 4 or 5A drop-ins?
I really want a Solarforce P1d, but would like to use a drop-in around the 4 or 5A mark, so, i’m curious if the Solarforce switch will handle it ok, or if i need a McClicky?
I get tired just reading this, thinking of all the work it entailed. I have other reviews that are read more often but of everything I've published here on BLF, what I wrote here I am most proud of. Interesting that it is less read than most of my other reviews. I guess everybody else isn't as taken with the P60verse as Foy is.
Well I for one certainly appreciate the effort that went into this comparison. I found it very interesting!
Best of all, since by the time you posted this I was making all my P60 drop-ins, it may be one of the only reviews you ever wrote that didn’t cost me any cash. Though every time I read it I’m tempted to contact Vinz.
Definitely my fave thread on BLF. Awesome source of info for P60 drop ins. Largely due to a Foy suggestion, my first “real” light was a SF L2. It is has become my work edc and appears to be nearly indestructible. All other lights have been relegated to back up duties. Thanks Foy.

subbed! just found this after i just put my first p60 together… go figure… i ended up getting the SF XM-L T6 3.7-8.4V (on sale) because I got a extension tube with my L2P host and wanted the option of a 2nd 18650 for added run time.
now… i’m rethinking that MF 3mode… pick up an L2M host and use that for the SF drop-in with extender and use the MF 3 mode in the L2P…. I just kind of got into this whole flashaholic thing… the Vinz looks amazing, as to the Egrenades… not sure i’m willing to go there … (this is BLF afterall ;))
… actually does anyone know if the new XM-L2 p60s available would outperform this group (not including the Vinz or Egrenades) of XM-Ls?
Excellent work, Foy. Superb effort, with invaluable information that is/will be extremely useful to many P60 lovers, out there, including me. Thank you, kindly, for sharing this information with us.
The only Erik Kress drop-in I own is one of his 5-mode XM-L 7C, which is currently installed in a Solarforce L2N, with an A001 head, a B6 stainless bezel, their stainless clip, and an S11 switch. I love this light. This was my first warm-tinted drop-in, and it is nothing shy of amazing, in all aspects
I’m afraid, the auto white balance setting I used, for this picture, doesn’t do the tint, justice. It’s absolutely beautiful.
Out of curiosity, wow does one get a hold of Vinz, to obtain one of his beautiful drop-ins?
It is a beautiful design. Reading Foy’s original post was a joy. The Vinz MD26E XM-L/U3/2S dropin looks an amazing item. If it still existed today with a newer LED it’s performance would be even better. It’s very expensive though and looks to have been a custom build.
