Oh boy, didn't follow this thread recently. Now I feel really bad recommending the $12.99 GB special to a few friends .
Karen (GB) - please keep in mind "defective" usually means not functioning, while a fake light may function but it's bought under deceptive pretense, delivering something much cheaper in quality and not as advertised, in both pictures and listed specifications.
Please keep it out-of-stock until this gets straightened out, thanks!
I always recommended Simon's store, and will do so even more now.
Oh Dear. I ordered a Convoy S2+ Red from http://www.aliexpress.com/store/1750069 on 01 June.
It was a couple of dollars cheaper than from Simon’s store & offered the same modifications. The website looked exactly the same as his store & the name on the dealer is Mr. Arden MAO.
This item is now no longer available !
I haven’t received it yet so time will tell what I get - a genuine or fake.
+1. Thanks for the very detailed screenshots. It cannot be clearer than this! I can thus confirm I got the REAL ONE! YAHOO. Date is 18/05/15.
Paid like $11 for mine. Cannot be happier. My new EDU (every day use) bedside lamp! (50 lumens)
Yep I agree it’s amazing thrower for such a little light. I have the HI-XPL 5000k in the Cypreus 18650, LD-2 driver with the longer smooth reflector, it’s about as perfect as you can get! Perfect spot, plenty of spill and beautiful tint! Not so good in the S2+ should of just left it alone! But I plan on getting a few of the S2’s and doing them for friends since I believe the Cypreus was based on it?
I <3 my S7. Since it’s stainless steel, it’s my “beater” light. It takes a lot of abuse and stays pretty. I built it with a 5x7135 nanjg driver, Nichia 219B on a Noctigon, SF L2 clip, DC-Fix on the lens to make the beam floodier/smoother, and custom firmware.
The max output is only about 500 lumens, but that’s fine for my uses and I wouldn’t want to go higher with a steel host anyway. It’s already pushing its limits for heat dissipation, and it’s a little beyond the maximum recommended current for its emitter.
I definitely can see the difference between S2 and S2+ light patterns, my S2 is a much more throwy combo of flood and throw in comparison and I enjoy that beam pattern more.
Well, I got my fake Convoys with crappy springs, scratched reflector, not 4C tint, very off center LED, not 2.8A driver, and they smell like they were somehow molded in a dungeon before sending… Also, they dont withstand a short washing in running water without submersion even while tightened up without taking water in at the lens at least. And water resistance is pretty necessary when the light smells like it does.
My real Convoy C8 with a Panasonic NCRB is in comparison brighter even though its a warmer 4C tint, and lights up the room better even with a Samsung 25R in the Red phoney S2+
Hey Chuck, I dont know about the A6 in comparison, sorry, you’ll have to ask someone else who has one.
Kudos to gearbest for solving my fake s2+ issue with ease, I don’t usually expect much from the CS of these Chinese stores but this time they worked things out really quick.
For those who said “never buying from GB again” I suggest you to contact them first. Perhaps is not entirely their fault on sending out the fake convoys.
