Education, or knowing things, is like having flashlights. You can never have to much. And it doesn’t all have to be the high-end stuff.

You are a flashaholic if you are forced to come out of the closet, to make room for more flashlights.

Knowing how to make an excellent 5 alarm chili on a cold winters day can be CRUCIAL! Wink Just like knowing exactly how much Vodka to pump into the watermelon on a hot summers day….

.

Dale,

You have stated recently that you use your somewhat older or less capable 18650s in your kids lights.

I have to ask: Are you accepting any more applicants for Kids?

5 alarm Chili, Vodka, Free lights and Batteries…I’m Your Boy!

Kindly Say YES, and lets make this a done deal!

BTW, I am 66yrs old, is this gonna matter to you?

I am already semi housebroken, if that counts for anything.

Thanks for your consideration!!!

-Your Very Possible Future Son, Chuck

Because Kronos is unavailable.....

I have to inform everybody that the XPL Hi WILL be available but I do not know what tints will be available. The availability of specific tints up to now really sucks and being able to source 500-1000 pieces is difficult so while if someone prefers the XPL Hi in a certain tint please understand that at "go time" they may be unavailable.

Nah...don't hate yourself...that is unproductive. Tongue Out I think the large custom group buys for this year are coming to a close for receipt by the Christmas season but there is always next year that needs to get started on Smile

Hopefully 5700k tint for XPL HI, stoked that it’ll be an option, will it also be driven as hard?

The driver is an FET +1, meaning the lower modes are run on a single 7135 chip for efficiency and the upper 3 modes have the FET driving direct drive… well dd for Turbo mode. So yes, the lights will be driven as hard as whatever emitter lands in em can do. Smile

PWM to lower the mode is not normally efficient on an FET driver as it is having to control that modulation from the full amperage of the driver. So if we’re pulling 6A then moon is modulated from that 6A. The FET +1 driver uses that single 7135 to run moon and the next 3 levels so that only 380mA is modulated, much more efficient and a LOT less heat burned off. ToyKeeper wrote the firmware to use percentages of the chip plus the mosfet in the middle modes to optimize this efficiency, creating a well spaced group of modes that are as pleasing to the cell as to our eyes. That is what makes this so special, and with the reversing feature in use on a regular tail clicky, very unique as well.

Thought I’d throw that out there for those that are new to the A6 firmware from TK. Wink I LOVE this driver! Smile (driver a design of Wights, who is on hiatus at the present time.) I even have a 10mm variant of it in my Titanium Texas Poker you see in my Avatar. It’s a 10440 cell light that pulls a little over 3A for 1117 lumens. Even as a twisty, the reversing feature still works and I have the hidden modes and batt check. Gotta love it!

Point being, the small 14500 K6 will be as kick butt as that cell size can deliver, and it’ll be a worthy sidekick to the larger 18650 ×6 to be sure. Epic! Wink

One HAIII AL WW set please! I had signed up already, but my reply must have gone unseen.

Hah, I’m not even involved in this one. I just want at least one set when the dust settles. Smile

(okay, I might do some little tweaks or calibration to make it work better on the new light, but otherwise I’m not involved…)

I should probably sign up for more sets, choose people to give them to over the holidays, etc… but mostly I just want one set for myself.

BTW, I know this will soon get lost in the endless pages of posts, but if anyone is curious here’s a diagram showing the BLF A6 interface (which will probably also be used on the new X6 v2).

If the light is definitely going to use this, perhaps the diagram should go into the first or second post somewhere.

Basically, you can choose whether you want 4 or 7 regular modes and whether you want mode memory. You can move through the modes in ascending or descending order based on how long you hold the button down. The modes evenly span the emitter’s entire range of output from a sub-lumen moon to a direct-drive turbo. No PWM is visible. And there are some hidden blinkies including a battery check. For those of us who like to mod things, all the code is open so people can use, modify, and even sell it as long as they pass the same freedoms along to others.

My darling dear Laughing Please do not think that you did not have any influence on this light set Tongue Out. YOUR coding efforts and YOUR UI have raised lights to another level that many including myself thought would be possible - especially with a Attiny13. I can only imagine what could happen with more room Smile

Not to discount, short-change or even forget everybody else that contributed on this forum.....Yourself, Wight, and Dale have proven the latest changes possible. I can only dream of what will happen in the future with the other very creative and capable people we have on the forum. The trick is tapping that ability for these tasks. Collective mind and its capabilities are enormous! That is why Kronos keeps asking for others to get involved AND voice and even show ideas

I hope this isn’t too much of a hassle… But can I switch to Neutral White? I had originally chosen Warm White. I’m actually still undecided, but I think the Neutral White is a good middle ground.

Well this is embarrassing. Sad But I’d like to keep the warm white. I’m sorry. :_( I just picked up and compared a warm white to a Neutral White light I own, and I loved my WW light more. I guess now it really must be a hassle. Haha sorry again!

Hello everyone!

I’m back from Puerto Rico. My family and I took a wonderful vacation down there, and it was very nice. I had limited internet…so I tried to keep up as much as I could, but I was determined to spend a lot of time with my family. Beautiful country and beautiful people there!

A BIG thanks to Bugs for keeping the list updated for me! Tending the list can be a huge time killer, so I appreciate him and all the other talents he possesses! Thanks also to Dale and Jmac for answering questions and helping the other BLFers with their concerns and questions.

I think we are off to a great start, especially since we don’t even have samples yet! I believe we will get the necessary totals once we receive samples. THIS LIGHT SET IS GOING TO BE EPIC!!! Sorry for yelling…but it seemed appropriate Big Smile

Here is the copied list from Bugs…let me know if I need to make any corrections. I am planning on updating the master list (at the end of this OP) and catching up with all the posts in the next few days. So…please be patient with me! Please keep the ‘Horse-Trading’ to a minimum. It is really difficult to keep track of, and I don’t seem to have as much time as I used to Sad

Welcome back Krono – hope you had a great holiday and safe journeying. The forums aren’t the same without you! Bugsy must be delighted you’re back; I think he’s probably had just about enough of all these lists by now!

Bugsy was doing an awesome job keeping the lists up-to-date, and began annotating requests for swaps and positions. He said he was happy to do so (keep note, not swap), as long as both requests and approval were stated in the thread by both parties.

Correct. Malenurse was missed. I am intentionally staying out of the numbering game. I will note that someone wants a certain number but think that both parties should state acceptance in the thread…..and Kronos decide if he wants to do it Smile I am just playing grunt here Smile

However inevitably a few people took issue with the requests (some considering it spam), and there were questions raised about the viability and value of such list positions and swaps. Alas it seems Bugsy stopped recording them, some got missed or mistaken from post 185 onwards.

If it’s agreeable with you Krono, I’d be happy to alleviate the overhead on tracking position swap requests/approvals in a single updated post, which you can then update into the master list at your own leisure.

Perhaps we can stipulate that ‘trading’ should be arranged by PM between the various members FIRST so as not to litter the thread unnecessarily, then both parties simply post their respective position request/approval here for the record (only after agreeing by PM first). Two posts-per-swap shouldn’t be too much of a burden on the thread size, and then I can track them in a single post for you.

I’ll keep the record in a table form with references to the relevant posts and positions for easy posterity and reference:

Date Post No Type (Al/CuSS) Requestor From Pos Approver To Pos Status (Pending/Approved/Rejected) Updated (Y/N)

07/11/2015 – 21:55 91 CuSS B42 Blank 42 Approved Y

I’m on holiday at the moment, so this is just the first few I could muster this-morning for this post; and if agreed, I can update it each night.

What say you mate; do you reckon that would be helpful?…

My personal opinion is that it is genuinely making people talk to each other when they might not have before. On the plus side, all this position swapping nonsense (granted it is ridiculous!), is driving engagement amongst individuals; and we are all chatting, PM’ing each other, and showing enthusiasm and passion for the hobby and groupbuy. So I don’t think these necessarily a bad thing or classified as spam posts.

Also, it keeps the visibility of this thread high at the top of the forum and therefore generates more interest and, ultimately, uptake of the Groupbuy. (I only added myself for a third and fourth set so that I appeared in a numbered position 31! – which was then disrupted!) It’s all fun and games!

It is unlikely for people to receive the exact serial number of their preference regardless of their position on the lists. It is both a tracking nightmare for the Group-buy admin, and worse logistically for the manufacturer. Imagine that unit number 3 gets dropped, broken or fails whilst in the factory after a production run, and they decide to trash it. Suddenly everyone past number 3 might receive a number different than on the list.

Nonetheless some people are more interested in their position and numbering for any given/bizarre/weird/petty/superstitious reasons which is up to them. Not everyone will care about such minor things, or even understand the rationale, but there is nothing stopping them showing interest in swapping positions whatever the reason. (These are probably the same thoughts our wives have when we come home with yet another ‘boring torch’ to add to our shelf collection of 50 that all do the same darn thing!)

Krono has stated in the OP that the “sooner you get your name on the list, the lower the S/N you will receive!” Note the emphasis on ‘LOWER’, which does not necessarily mean EXACT! Therefore these positions and swap requests should be considered only as ‘position in list (and possible, maybe, tentative, but not very likely, serial!)’, instead of ‘desired serial number position’.

This is being facilitated simply because some people feel it would still be nice to be in the desired position on the list (-even if it is only on the list!), but understand that it is probably just a number position “on the list” and not any form of guaranteed representation of serial number.)

I appreciate your willingness to help, Hirshy (and others). Please feel free to update me and I will make the changes necessary when time allows.

Everyone, please keep in mind that this is an interest list and nothing is written in concrete yet (specs, timeframes etc.)…including no guarantee of S/N assignment. As stated previously, it is likely to be a logisitical nightmare…so please don’t expect it! We will do our best to make it happen, but, ultimately, it is about the lights, not S/N placement. I am also not sure if we will be able to mix tints within a set also, but I will check on it. Smile

Considering the brisk reaction time we have been getting on test samples, I fully expect this GB to materialize at a faster pace than previous GBs. I don’t forsee a problem having this ready for the Christmas season. Nevertheless, this is not a guarantee. There are always unforseen challenges in dealing with Group Buys!. :Sp

Additionally, we have had some really interesting suggestions on design, materials usage etc. These ideas deserve adequate attention, and are being discussed with Neal and the manufacturer of the X6-SE v2. Likewise, it is nice to see the willingness and excitement of BLFers wanting to help and push this SE light set along. The more people we have participating, the better value and specifications we can achieve.

Thanks for everyone’s effort and patience!

I didn’t see my name on list 1 and I’d like to be for WW or NW if warm isn’t available.

Tentatively I’m interested depending on final versions. Warm white of the 1st set. Gotta have moonlight this time.

Which version…SS/CU or Al?
