Thorfire C8s review and teardown

My review of the Thorfire C8s (provided by Thorfire for review)

Most of the review will be pictures, because you know, pictures speak louder than words!

I’ll start by saying the Thorfire C8s is very similar to the Convoy C8. The main differences being the driver and the forward click switch.

Nice box compared to the usual white crushed one that usually comes with these type of lights:

!!

Open:

!!

Carefully packed:

!!

Out the box, comes with a lanyard and 1 spare o-ring, and a user manual (english)

!!

Next to the Convoy C8:

!!

Nicely lubed threads, square cut and anodised just like the Convoy:

!!

Inside the head:

!!

Business end (note the entering ring slightly misaligned)

!!

No AR lens, but the glass is clean and clear:

!!

The Pill:

!!

Aluminium star, big blob of Thermal paste

!!

Driver:

!!

Magnified driver:

!!

Switch (forward clicky)

!!

All parts Dismantled:

!!

Tailcap readings (cheap DMM)
M: 0.03A
L: 0.06A
M: 0.85A
H 2.2A

The light does have last mode memory (after 2-3 seconds)

The mode order is H M L Moonlight, I would have preferred Moonlight L M H.

Conclusion:
I think this is a great light, but is on the pricey side, it is very similar to the convoy C8, it is great quality and the anodising is perfect (I like the matte black) It also fits protected 18650’s.
Also a great mod host with the big smooth reflector!

Upgraded leads or stock?

2-3s on or 2-3s off?

Upgraded leads but cheap DMM

And 2-3 seconds off, I forgot to count before I took it apart but it’s more like 3 seconds

Alright, thanks for the review!

I like it having off-time memory.

That driver looks like some sort of buck driver, what is the diameter of it? Wonder how much current can this driver handle without frying itself.

Great review, thank you!

Thanks for the review James! Do you know if the driver can be resistor modded? It looks similar to the driver that came with the X6SE.

Nice review! I too like the matte black ano

Driver is 17mm

The R082 could probably be resister modded but it’s not really my field (I’ve not quite got my head around the values)

I tend do do a trial and error approach i.e. Stick a R100 on top and see what happens hahaha

Nice review, I have been looking at one of the four mode C8’s as the 3+5 mode is a nice light!

Since you measure 2.2A with the stock R082 resistor, then you will probably get around 3.7A by stacking an R120 resistor on top of it, or around 4.0A with R100 resistor. But considering it might be a buck driver, there might also be some power loss especially with one cell configuration, so in reality you might get some lower current readings even with good 18650.

I am interested in this driver, thinking if it will work in my 1405 or not… but still don’t know what is the input voltage range of this driver though.

There’s no info on driver, just that it can use 1 18650 or 2 CR123’s

It’s ok I understand that, thank you very much.

Nice review! It looks like the folks who think that Convoy sh*t the bed when they went with the new pillless design will be pleased with the new ThorFire C8s.

Looks like they sourced their host from the same manufacturer as convoy. It may only be a matter of time before the thorfire is pill-less too. That is, if thorfire sells enough to warrant a second batch

Just wondering if anyone has come up with more information on this driver.
