Well, turns out it’s a 12x35 turret lathe (US made), 3 jaw chuck, 5C collets. So should be able to handle a hyper mega mag mod. Unfortunately requires 220V or 440V. It does have a phase converter so it can run on single-phase.

Another friend of mine has a Grizzly mill/lathe, but I don’t think he wants to part with it. He has turned out some pretty amazing stuff on it, so those machines are not total crap. If the funds are available, I think a decent mill-lathe would be the way to go.

Can we install 220 volt power in Justin’s garage ?
Let’s keep this in mind.

The wishlist is not a shopping list per se.
It is a price target for fundraising, and a list of tooling that we would prefer to buy
cheaper, like used, or on sale somewhere.
I am going to check my local machine shop and show them the list.
I ask others to look for used tooling, also, maybe at your local machine shop.

I am glad that VB is taking it over. He's a good one to do this, since he's a lathe/hobbyist guy already.

Vesture of Blood is collecting donations and he will be posting a new donation thread.

I just talked with Big Chuck down at the machine shop.
He’s a master machinist and started in 1974.
He’s a fan of Old Lumens YouTube videos.
Chuck says there is a LOT of used tooling on eBay at
very good prices.
He says do NOT get a combo mill / lathe.
A separate lathe and mill is far better.
I agree with his reasoning.
With separate machines, justin can have both set up to run.
With a combo, he has to keep switching tooling and it wastes a lot of time.
and the combo does neither job as well as the separate machines do.

Repeat : Check Ebay for used tooling

JamesB if you could, please add this link to the OP.

Thanks

Full support for VOB :-) , thanks for doing this!

OP updated.

Definitely better, but Justin is very short on space, etc. A combo machine is much better than having only a mill or a lathe. Besides, he’s not making sub-micron featured doodads… yet.

I’m gonna draw a line at building justin a new garage.
I’ve done all I can.
Justin and his advisors will make the final decisions on what to buy.

Justin has given away 10k worth of good stuff he could have sold.
But he likes giving stuff away.
So let’s show him how much we appreciate it.
Hit the send button !!

There is an active link now to Help fund the lathe purchase for Old-Lumens.

“Old Lumens Lathe fund donation thread. Contribution information here.”
It is being handled by “vestureofblood”

This should link you to if you would like to help Justin get started with his own
shop for producing more of his great lights.

I‘m in.
Thanks for the work in BL.

Thanks JamesB, VOB and everyone else here for getting this accomplished. This is a great community of people. Well done.

Right on!

Old Lumens needs help welding a Steel Table in Texas.

Old Lumens has nowhere to weld a steel table,
and no one nearby to help him with the welding.
He does not have a welder.
Can someone near Tyler Texas help justin weld a table ??

Don't think he needs a welder anymore;

Someone go tie him up and stop him from making a wood table !!!

Just hire one of those alchemists who turn straw into gold, it should be an easy matter for them to convert wood into aluminium

Can somebody post on CPF.
we need more money to get this finished.

Sorry I can’t help, as I stopped being able to find serious work a long time ago.

Great sentiment, but if they’re here, they know; if they’re not here, they probably wouldn’t understand.
