ToyKeeper has been added to the design team. Her firmware will be used on these lights, and her expertise is sorely needed. Welcome TK to the team!
Wight has given us his blessing on using his driver design. Woot! Thanks wight!!!
Sample hosts are mostly complete! We should see samples shipping to the team, hopefully within the next few weeks! Manker is FAST!!! I will try to get some pics out as soon as available.
1DsMkII full frame sensor. Really Right Stuff quick release bracket, macro focusing rail, flash bracket, and tripod ball head. Tripod is a Slik carbon fiber. 100mm Macro Hybrid IS lens.
One thing I like about the older 1DsMkII is that it’s dedicated to photo’s, no live view no video whatsoever, just excellent clean files at 16.7MP that rivaled medium format when it first came out. Just because a few years has taken camera’s in a new direction doesn’t mean this old camera doesn’t take fantastic pictures, because it does! Back in it’s day’s of glory, it was Canon’s most expensive camera, costing more new than even todays top offerings. (I got it used with a new shutter, and have since replaced that shutter twice. Thousands upon thousands of beautiful pictures.
Usually, these days, I use a 20D with the macro lens, or a 60mm EF-S macro, for the flashlight pictures. Plenty big enough and sharp enough without being overkill.
LOL, OCD working overtime much? That’s not a gap, it’s a shadow. The fins protrude from the bezel/head for cooling purposes, which allows that first one to cast a shadow on the bezel with the light coming from upper right.
Believe me, RBD left nothing to chance… (RBD being RufusBDuck for those that are confused)
Edit: Double checking the light, the shadow is enhanced by the fact that MagLight put a slight bevel on the outer edge of the bezel such that there is a slight inset at the junction of bezel/copper fin which makes that shadow even darker. It’s present so there won’t be a sharp edge on a part consumers are likely to handle, it could be filed or sanded down for a finer edge there but it’s really of no consequence.
Phew talk about a load off my mind, it was giving me nightmares  Yeah my OCD is working but I knew there was some explanation for it. Sorry for the trouble.
I’m planning on taking a pretty extensive set of photo’s of these samples when they arrive, showing close-up detail inside and out as well as the usual beam shots and current/output tests. So there will be plenty to occupy your obsessions keen interest pretty soon.
