[WIP] 6v-LED TK35 clone driver thing: for TK35 and 'friends'

I’m not telling you what you should do. If you put 12x7135 in a plastic battery holder… that’s on you. Furthermore this driver is an UNTESTED work in progress. I’ve done some measurements, but I’m sure I also eyeballed some things.

This driver may be setup for FET+1x7135 or 11x7135+1x7135 operation. Of course it may also be used for straight-up FET or 11x7135 operation if that’s what you want.

Features:

  • Dual PWM w/ either FET or 11x7135 on primary channel.
  • Zener ready.
  • Offtime ready.
  • e-switch ready for dual-switch lights only. Zener modded drivers have a high parasitic drain in e-switch applications, so they should only be used with clicky+momentary setups like the TK35 and clones.
  • ATtiny85 ready. The extra-wide footprint accepts both 150mil such as the standard ATtiny13A used on most BLF drivers as well as the wider 208mil package used by the ATtiny85 and some other ATtiny MCU variants.

Physical:

  • ~36mm diameter (35.98mm at it’s widest)
  • Files down to 32mm for non-TK35 applications [such as Maglite].
  • LED- ring is slightly wider than stock.
  • 2.1mm screw slots.
  • 11mm LED+ or Battery+ pad w/ 6.6mm exposed
  • Centered via to allow center-drilling for B+ spring bypasses in custom applications.
  • GND ring on both sides.

The driver should flip over just fine for use in lights requiring a driver between 32mm and 36mm. You may want to paint over the LED- ring in that case!

For use in the TK35 clones I recommend stripping the bottom PCB OR using Vdd from the bottom PCB in place of Z1 / D1 / C2 on the top PCB. [EDIT: of course you should still use C2, it’s for decoupling the MCU.] In any case you’ll need to bring in SW+ from the bottom PCB and eliminate the “EN” wire.

wight,

Excellent, I might just get good at converting these. Well see.

There are some rough edges, but I think overall it’s decent.

I put a fair amount of effort into ensuring that it can be sanded down a looong ways. Most of us don’t have 3x TK35 clones, so I figured an FET+1 or 11+1 driver would be a nice thing to use in clicky Maglites.

I want it!

OSH Park has free international shipping. I’ll probably put a little more polish on this driver in the coming days, so I’m not saying that you folks should order right away.

Has someone here successfully built this driver? Or maybe a pic of the populated driver?

I want to use it in a Courui D01 with a FET+1. Where does the single 7135 go? Where do I connect LED + and -?

Oh, I just realised I’ll need a contact plate to bring positive from the 3 batteries to the center pad … right?

WHy wouldn't you just piggyback in a 17mm driver? Lots of choice in 17's, or if a 20mm fits.

Yeah this was the plan until I discovered this.

I think it is much nicer to have a fitting driver.
