Hugsby XP-2

Is the single AAA brightness comparable to the 2 AAA version?. . .

I have only casually compared once, but they seemed about equal brightness to me. Didn't try to measure to be sure though.

I just received my order today, two XP-2 and two XP-1.
In my comparison, XP-2 is slightly brighter than XP-1.

But I think XP-2 will have more runtime, haven’t tried yet.

Good Prices on these here

Has anybody run into a fake XP-2 yet? I already know there are fake XP-1’s floating around.

@fishx65: is there any way to spot fake XP1 and the real ones?

Yes, the clip is lower profile without the bump, tail cap rubber is really shiny, reflector is smooth and the reflector and glass can be removed on the fakes. Best getting them from a proven vender like E-bays Tomtop because even if the pictures are of the real XP-1 they can still send you fakes. I’ve got two fakes from a vendor on Aliexpress and one real one from Tomtop. Should be getting two more from Tomtop any day now.

One other thing, the fakes only kick out about 30-40 ice cold lumens.

I received my XP-1 and XP-2 today from Tomtop. They are real, based on fishx65’s description above. Both lights also had nicely centered emitters.

Anyone experienced with seller Explore03 ?
He has cheapest Hugsby XP1 on AlieExpress when you buy in numbers.

My two fake XP-1s came from Explore02 on Aliexpress. I’m gonna take a wild guess that Explore03 and Explore02 are somehow related.

Thanks fishx65.
After reading their feedbacks, I’m pretty convinced to avoid this seller.

I’ve still yet to see how bad a fake XP-1 or XP-2 can get

I received a fake XP-2 off of E-Bay. Shiny tail cap and no bump on the clip. It was rated to be 1600 lumens… Way too good to be true. But it is still a nice light, and bright for its size, over 100 lumens I’d say. Seems fairly well made from what I can tell.

I was wondering for those who own a genuine xp-2. Do the batteries fit snugly in the housing?
In my fake, the batteries have some play to move side to side which is annoying. I was thinking about buying a genuine one but I don’t know if I should bother if the batteries are going to be knocking around.

Are you asking if the batteries can bounce around when the light is put together (with the tailcap etc)? If so, on mine, no it doesn’t, at least with some AA alkalines I have in there.

mine had some play even if it is original
just some like less than 1mm wiggle

the spring held the battery tight so it’s cool

Do you believe it will deliver 600 lm? I think you will be lucky to get 60-100 lm.

This is a common problem in many lights due to not all cells being equal in diameter. It's actually more frustrating for me when I can't fit my fatter cells in a light. To stop the knocking around, I usually just use my fatter cells or insert a thin sheet of plastic in the battery tube.

@Celidor,

These rattle slightly on my aaa rechargeables (JCB & Eneloop), until you snug down the tailcap or head ready for use. Then silent as light.

P.S. One reviewer suggested that the head be removed for battery changes, as they found the tail spring to be damaging their batteries. Just FYI.

Had about 40 of these now as gift lights off Ali-Express, mostly off TomTop. The only problem I,ve encountered so far is a couple of the reverse clickies arriving in the “On” position, and then clicking once or twice and going silent. No “Click” no switching on!

I seem to recall with some of the other Hugsby’s that the manufacturer claims to be selling direct off Ali-Express, but at average prices. Other dealers seem to be selling the genuine articles for less, so worth waiting for TomTop etc. to do special offers, to lessen chance of fakes. Found TomTop sometimes sell the same product cheaper on eBay.Co.Uk than their AE site (still from China, not UK)

What will they forge next?

The LEDs themselves. What’s the betting those fake Hugsbys have a fake XP-E inside as well. |(
