Nichia 219C, testing a 5000K 83CRI emitter, comparing with a XP-G2 S4 2B and other leds

Thanks djozz. Yes thats what I read but couldn't remember the details.

What I plan to order is 20-50 of the following: Nichia NVSW219C 280lm white, 5000k, 83Ra. I’m debating the quantity because I don’t know what the interest level is for these on the forum. Every time I convince myself to just get 20 I find a bunch of excuses why I should order more.

Shipping is the killer, they don’t generally ship to the US, so I have to arrange shipping, and it’s not cheap. This is the main reason I keep thinking about a bigger order, to defray the cost of shipping.

I plan to grab some other LED’s as well. Some for playing around, some for builds.

If they have them in stock you could consider getting some of the 5000K 70 CRI 219C's, they should have 15% more output than the 83CRI version. With a sliced dome (hoping that that would come close to the effect of a full dedome) it should outthrow everything, even the XP-G2 S4 at 6A (which is not possible on a single battery).

They don’t appear to have the 70 CRI version.

Just got an estimate on shipping, $145. :_(

It’s not looking good, I’m not going to pay that much for shipping unless I’m really confident that people are going to be interested in these in the US at almost $10 each for bare emitters.

It doesn’t help that they quoted a package size of 10”x7”x2.5” and 3lbs. It’s hard to believe even 100 LED’s would take a box that big OR weight that much.

Maybe a European member could offer to forward the package?

Where do you plan to order?

Lumitronix was the plan. Even going down to a half pound only dropped shipping to $100.

I have bought some for blf members and am ok to do that again. For 10+ it is ~3.70dollar, 100+ 2.70dollar. Shipping is under 10 dollar.

I'm ok with it if I can send the lot to one person in the states, I'm not fond of sending multiple packages.

I’ll order some through you (a lot). Do you have to pay the VAT tax when ordering from them? I’ll PM you the order details and then PayPal you money.

I have NVSL219C inbound in 4000k 83RA but dont know what flux bin until they hit

I have 100 219C’s on the way. I’ll post some up for sale once they get here. They’re the 83CRI, 5000k.

Jos, that testing is awesome! I don’t know how I missed this til now.

I have some 219C’s coming in tomorrow via UPS. Samples directly from Nichia in Japan. The North American Sales Rep tells me there are no distributors here in the US, but these can be bought directly through the rep site. Shame Henry already ordered, probably could have gotten the best deal direct.

I think she had them send me 5000K variants, they are supposed to be the Ra8000 or 83CRI. I’ll see tomorrow.

I have this Titanium X6 from Rey that I was thinking of rebuilding with a Quad, using these. I wasn’t sure what kind of current they could take, but man you sure showed what they’re capable of! Thanks for that, awesome work there. Can’t wait now to get his built with 4 of these and see how it goes…

And yes, this rep told me Japan had cancelled production on the 90CRI variant. No known estimate as to whether or not they’ll pick it back up.

Edit: Checked the email on shipment and they are sending NVSW219CE sm507/D280/L2/R8000

I would have thought that you read it sooner, BLF is large now, I miss threads all the time too. I am really curious what the quad will do with these leds, with this output, low Vf and a touch of F'nDale it might just be close to 4000, with a great hotspot.

I was hoping for the 4K range, I’ve got the light prepped and am waiting for UPS to show up. I could have specified a 2 hour delivery window and had them a little after lunch, for $8. So here I am, waiting. lol

I am using 4 10mm SinkPAD’s under a Ledil CUTE-4 optic in Soft Spot angle of emission. I plan to polish the diffuse surface, don’t know if that will help any or not. I’ve got 2 copper pieces made for the connections, one a disc that will solder to the 4 positive pads, the other a ring that will surround the mcpcb’s and solder to the negative pads. I plan to use 16ga wire to these copper connection pieces for full power capability.

Reckon I’ll go polish that optic and not even bother with checking it in stock form. (anxious)

I called the Detroit Office, your location may help you determine which one would work best for you. They have Offices all over the World. These are just the North American ones.

BLF Ti X6 Quad 219C is complete. Ledil CUTE-4 optics with the face polished, LG HE-4 cell, looks like 4029.6 lumens at start. That was the first quick and dirty reading, I have to get an o-ring or two to finish the light but it’s looking like WOW! and a nice white tint. Just got it done, stuck it on the lightbox.

Tail current reading, 20.34A!!! From a single LG HE-4! Holy carp!

^ Whoa! That is fricken awesome! How do you like the tint at that level of output?

Thanks for the contact info above.

The tint is wonderful across the board and just insane at max output. Really stoked about it, for sure.

I polished just the cup of the CUTE-4 optics, using my finger tip and Mother’s Billet Aluminum Polish. The optic has cupped faces with a small flat bottom and a point in the middle between the merged quad TIR’s, I left that alone and just polished the cup with the top surface surround still retaining the diffusion.

Never seen an 18650 do 20A before, not one by itself. Freaky.
