GIVEAWAY and tiny review of Thorfire VG-15

My favorite light, currently: K60, it’s big it’s heavy it’s 5K lumens, at a job now so cant post images…
Feature: “infinite” dimming like crelant lights use but 3-4 modes and setting that is preserved even when battery is removed.

I’m waiting for the the successor of the FireFoxes 4 HID…perhaps an FF5?

  1. - My favorite light? that’s difficult. :stuck_out_tongue:
    • As of right now it has to be my Olight S15 with two Eneloops, (extension tube) and a XM-L 4C tint & Stippled TIR mod. Its a beautiful tint, nice & floody, and best medium-mode run time ever of the 2-AA class.

1. Not one favourite but many used lights.
EDU on rotation: Convoy S2+, Quark QP2L-X and Sunwayman C22C.

Headband frequent use: ZLH52 (mostly indoors)…I can see my Sunwayman getting more use as headlamp outdoor with the higher capacity 18650 cell though

2. I’d take an uncoming ZL SC600. That is going to be great (I suppose)

3. No idea!

#2 - ”The light you are drooling over the most and why you want to buy”

.
M2X-UT Javelot!

Just waiting for Olight to come clean with us and provide this light with a Genuine XP-L HI (Domeless) emitter, rather than them just ‘De-Dome’ an Xp-L). - They used to De-Dome the XM-L2 for these and that was even worse!

The ‘Tint’ is Green with the De-Dome, and White with the Real Thing!

Thank you for the nice giveaway,
-Chuck

At the moment my favourite light is the Convoy S2. It has been for quite a while. I use many other torches regularly but the S2 is one that is always there. It’s not perfect but it’s a nice compact torch. Hoping my A6 on the way becomes my new Favorite.

If I had to pick a torch that I would really like ot own it would be the Nitecore MH20. There may be better choices in that price range but it appeals in its size and it’s performance, size quality. Price is too high for me at the moment. I tend to buy budget torches.

1a. Your favorite light that you own:

Convoy S2+

1b) Why it is your favorite? (and a picture of it if possible)

I really like 18650 tube lights, and I am currently carrying my S2+. ;)

My wife has many shoes and I have even more lights. They have in common that you can only wear one pair at a time.

1/ Years ago I bought a SureFire Defender in a clearance. Put in a 18650 and a LED drop-in. Have it on me whenever I wear a jack or a coat.
Which in the Netherlands means: practically always. It has the weight, size and bezel a pocket-rocket just can’t offer.
2/ There are lots of “drool”-lights but they would probably end up standing next to the magnificent lights I already have (and hardly ever use).
Once in a while I contemplate upgrading my old SF into a SS fully loaded SF (SolarForce).
3/ UI like an AK47: menu 1 without strobe, menu 2 with strobe.

My favourite flashlight is the dqg aaa because it always comes with me

I love my s2+. Perfect for walking and taking a dog out.

I would love a big headed thrower someday.

I would love Thorfire to make a decent headlamp that’s cheap.

Hopefully I’ll have the 20 posts before the drawing.

My favorite flashlight I own is my C8 with the mtg2 pushing out the most light I’ve ever seen from something so small!
I’m absolutely drooling over the Nitecore TM16. It just looks like aa wall of lumens coming out the front of that thing!
I really wish manufacturers like Thorfire would include more tint options. Sometimes I want a cool white, sometimes a neutral.

One of my favorite lights is the B2s N-light . Why? Cuz it's pretty ,shiny, well designed .... and obsolete ...IMHO the perfect light doesn't have to be small or made of some exotic metal .Stainless steel is nice as long as it isn't too heavy .

my question about the light is .. if you threw it out of a plane at 30 thousand feet ...and at the same time fired Archimedes out of a cannon from the same plane ...

Which one would hit the ground first ?

My suggestion to Thorfire is get rid of the unstable open tail design

My favorite light?
A Yezl Y3, and I like it because it run with 8 C battery, so it is much longer than my amazing Maglite 4D moddet with a XR-E and run with 8 AA Nihm (with adaptors)

My suggestion to Thorfire is to make some more affordable price. Sometimes they are too expensive (for my empty wallet).

1. The favorite light that I own is my BTU Shocker “Nightbird95”. It is my favorite especially after I have modified it because it throws like hell while at the same time covers a larger and wider area with its beam. My avatar shows how it performs at 700 meters. No its not my farthest throwing flashlight but my farthest throwing light can’t cover much area at long distances (say over 1 km).

2. The light I am drooling over the most is the Nitecore TM36 Lite because unlike most other ultra throwers (1 km and up range) its beam/ hot spot is much wider. I also like it more than the regular TM36 because its smaller, lighter and easier to carry around. However I don’t see myself buying this in the near future so I’ll just keep on drooling.

3. A feature or spec that I wish manufacturers like Thorfire would include on their future products would be throw (lots of it) and flood (also lots of it) at the same time.

Okay, so I’m in too!

1.Your favorite light that you own and why it is your favorite (and a picture of it if possible)
Always changing: at the moment, it’s my Convoy S3 XP-G2 triple. 3x CW (I like cool tints!) XP-G2 emitters in the S3 host, using the 3A Qlite driver from Mtn with moonlight low enabled. Very nice to have a light that’s so low, but still impressively bright on high. This is my first light built with the Qlite driver, and I’ve found that I really do like having the low-low, and the lack of visible PWM/noise; the extra few mA of the higher-rated 7135s doesn’t hurt either! Sorry, no pics at this time; use your imagination. Another possible contender would be my old TrustFire F20 which has been my EDC for three years now. It’s been completely rebuilt including some recent work done a couple of weeks ago, now only the host is original. Started out as the base XR-E model, first mod was a reflector replacement and update to a XM-L U2 emitter purchased from the Jolly Green Dino several years ago. This reflector has an unusual very subdued texture that keep the throw of an SMO while still smoothing out the rings. Much later, replaced the reflector centering ring with the butterfly type. Kept in that configuration until the second go-around resulting in retaining the aftermarket reflector while replacing the emitter with an XM-L2, replacing the switch with one salvaged from another host, and replacing the original low-voltage-capable driver with a 101-AK to finally eliminate the blinkies and add regulation.

2.The light you are drooling over the most and why you want to buy it so bad (and a picture of it if possible)
Always changing: At the moment, it’s the UltraFire 1504. I don’t really have a need, but really like ultra-long-range aspheric-type throwers. Either that or any large-diameter reflector based thrower. I have an older STL-V2 style clone, but would like something like the Courui-type with the larger reflector.

3.A feature or spec that you wish manufacturers like Thorfire would include or not include on their future products
I don’t have any of the Thorfire lights to really comment, but one thing I see… The Thorfire lights with pocket clips seem to consistently have a section of larger-diameter grooves or fins directly below the clip. (This light is a good example.) This looks like it would interfere with comfortable pocket carry and easy draw. One of the reasons I prefer my F20 as an EDC is the smooth cylindrical body; it rides comfortably with nothing to snag on or wear through my pocket.

I would like to see ThorFire and all light makers hide their “burst” mode, the Fenix HL30 does that so that you don’t have to cycle through it all the time, if you want the Turbo mode, you have to hold the switch down for a split second more to get it.

In my short tests I didn’t notice PWM, so I checked with a camera just now. It indeed does use PWM.

Thanks for the rootbeer!

- My dream light is the upcoming Okluma TinyDC in Ti. Not a budget light (retail is $450). It basically is a revamped Mac Tri EDC from a new, responsive builder. Classy, classic, and fits 17mm circuits so I can put in my favorite Dr. Jones’ driver.
