Convoy L2...Guess who's back???

My guess is that there will be no pill, he seems to be moving to an integrated shelf across his product line.

+1!

I owned a first batch Convoy L2, modded by Vinz (Germany) with dedomed XP G2, driver etc. (no LD1 or LD2 at that time . . . .)
It reached 386Kcd with a blue Efest IMR 26650 “3000” (2500 mAh in real life). At that time, the best 26650 high drain available.

What I liked a lot was the overall build quality: thick walls, very good threads, good any, brass inserts on all the tube parts, making for excellent electrical contact, and a AR coated lens standard. Even better: the reflector was screwed into the head, so it was part of the mass absorbing the heat. Very good light at a reasonable price. :cowboy_hat_face:

I very much like the looks of this new style L2: it just looks “the business” if you get my drift.

If this one is any good and/or moddable I will get it, maybe two for different mods (or one as a gift for my favourite German modder

Perhaps next generation with side switch and other options? We’ll see. And probably buy that one as well

BTW: Present day Efest IMR 3500 purple is a tad better (than the old Efest blue) and the new Vappower IMR 4200 green is quite some better so even with one cell a dedomed XP G2 would do nice. Very nice in fact.

And one kind with OP, and one kind with SMO ?

Whether it is traditional pill or integrated shelf this is not my point. My point is that he should make the light to accept driver with 21mm in diameter and up to 11mm in height.

While Simon does make good quality lights (which I really like), I don’t agree for the part that he did really listen to us.

When we requested him to come out something that runs an MT-G2 early this year, it never happened;

When we asked him to change the Convoy C8 back into separated pill (instead of integrated shelf), it never happened;

Are Simon’s lights good? Sure they are; Is his service good? Definitely; But does Simon listen to the voice of his customers regarding his product design? I personally don’t think so.

I will still order flashlights from Simon, but if I want something special I will look at somewhere else.

I understand what you mean. That’s why I threw in the disclaimer about him also being a bit on the stubborn side. He’ll incorporate our ideas sometimes, but it’s on his terms and only if he likes them. His listening to us is in the fact that he’s bringing back the L2 at all. He had not planned to. The blue S2+ is another example. He had scrapped that idea but with enough persuasion he changed his mind. As far as the L2, again it’s being built based on his preferences at least for this first round. He did say that he will take our ideas into consideration for the next version so we’ll just have to wait and see…

There may be a bit of disappointment with some of this info but…

Simon says…

There will be no extension tubes in this first batch.
I think side switch version is better if it runs on two batteries.
Working time for this version is 2.5hours on high mode (Battery Keeppower 5200mAH). I think it’s enough.
Tactical switch in the tail.
The diameter of reflector is 61mm or so.

I’ll pass along more as I get the info but that’s the latest. Don’t shoot the messenger. I did ask him if he would offer a tube extension and OP reflector as separate items. We’ll see what he says.

That is a bummer… :_(
Though it’s still an awesome (looking) light.

Yeah, I was disappointed myself. It does look awesome though. I still don’t know what emitter he’s using. I’m really hoping it’s not just the standard XM-L2 choices. I told him people would be disappointed about the lack of an extension tube so I’m hoping he will reconsider. If not I guess worst case scenario we’re looking at a bigger beefier replacement for the C8 with more throw and longer runtime… I guess we won’t know for sure until one of us has one of these in his or her hands so I will do my best to withhold judgment.

I’m sorry, but I just won’t be buying a L2 with out an extension tube. - Just won’t do it!

Hell! - I have an extension tube for my L4, and even have one for my little Olight S15:-)

I guess I’m just an Extension Tube kinda guy!

Kinda like a politician who is out of touch with his constituents? Refuses to ban ugly yellow/green tinted LEDs. Do it for the children.

.

Yes - It would really be nice to see some A and D tints for a change. - Of course, some progress has been made as he now offers 1A instead of the ghostly looking 1B. - I suppose that some would say that 3B is better than 3C, but I’ll just say “Different” :frowning:

I think that we need some 3A - 3D, and 4A…. Ok, 4D if you can’t find the 4A.

JMHO,
-Chuck

Your calling Simon the same level as a politician?! :open_mouth:
Doesn’t BLF have rules against foul language?

We need common sense flashlight control laws. Ban extended battery tubes. There is no need for multicell flashlights on the streets. Won’t somebody please think of the children?

I must admit I hesitated posting again because I was frustrated with a response from Simon that this new L2 will only have XM-L2 emitter options and no extension tube. I told him BLF would be very disappointed with that choice. His response was reassuring. He said this first new L2 is just a transitional model and he is already planning the next version with an extension tube and plans to accommodate our wishes for, if not supply an XHP emitter. So he is listening. He didn’t have our desire list in time to factor them into this first run. I think all he was focusing on was “Bring back the L2!”. He wishes to emphasize that this is just a transitional model and the next version will be more to BLF liking. I still think the new version looks awesome and I want to have one in my hands before passing judgment…

Why? Not sure what this comment is about…

Please remember to NOT incorporate integrated charging - we don’t need it, really. It will just hinder the modding capabilities! If the L2 comes back, it should be an absolute GREAT moddable host giving GREAT performance - This IS important

Maybe you’d feel jambed up holding a flashlight in the palm of your hand with only one cell in length and a side switch. Add another cell, now you have some room and balance. Just guessing?

I don’t think he has any plans to incorporate internal charging in the L2. He said he’s going to send me one I just don’t know when. I can’t wait though. Just based on the one picture that thing looks like a tank!

Integrated charging can be done without interfering with modding. Look at the Eagle Eye X6R. I, for one, would like integrated charging (as long as a good cc/cv chip is used).
