Guys any clue what happened to my battery? It wont work any flashlight too
Update: Didn’t work on the nitecore. Put it back in the VC4. Started charging as NiMH. Will see if it pulls through…
I would use a dvm and check the battery voltage. I suspect that the voltage is low, maybe about 1 volt.
You probably drained the battery to around 1.0v so your charger think it is a NiMH. If that is the case, it dropped below the recommended 2.50v. Do you have a meter to check the voltage?

If the battery was drained below 2volts you might want to consider tossing it.
Consider tossing it into the appropriate recycling bin (and keep it in a metal box outdoors until you do).
And remember don’t inhale if it vents. Yeah, it’s unlikely to fail dramatically after draining to 1V. But it’s much less likely to recover to a useful condition.

You’re nitecore may bring it back. I had two separate lap top pulls and the ones that only read 1 volt are holding voltage better than the others that read 3.7. And it’s an excuse to get a voltmeter.
From everything I’ve read lithium cells suffer internal damage when discharged to very low levels (such as internal shorts). Maybe nothing will ever happen but for me it’s not worth the $10 or so to take the chance of experiencing an exciting, and dangerous, event
Yes I suppose it’s not worth a mini explosion in your house. I thought I had read that you could bring them back if you had the right charger. I probably need to do some more research. Thanks Sig!
The xtar vc4 claims to be able to rescue your over discharged batteries.
From reading their marketing stuff all that means is that it can reset protected batteries. See this
I doubt any charger can undo internal shorts.
I read the link and i don’t think thats what they mean. They claim their chargers can detect the battery voltage when it has been over discharged, which, correct me if i am wrong, would be impossible if a pcb had tripped. Seems to me that what d10ten posted earlier about the charger confusing the li-ion battery for a ni-mh battery is what’s happened, the voltage dropping so low. The good thing is that Wrathbringer never came to any harm, assuming the batteries were imbalanced
I read it more carefully and they’re probably talking about reduce level charging the cells until they’re somewhere around 2.5volts and then charging them normally. But the my point still stands that I’d toss the cell because “rescuing it” by no means eliminates any damage to it.
All I know is when I stuck those really drained batteries in my d4 it brought them back to 3. something volts really quick and got them charged with very little heat coming from them. So maybe I lucked out.
