Convoy L2...Guess who's back???

Kinda like a politician who is out of touch with his constituents? Refuses to ban ugly yellow/green tinted LEDs. Do it for the children.

.

Yes - It would really be nice to see some A and D tints for a change. - Of course, some progress has been made as he now offers 1A instead of the ghostly looking 1B. - I suppose that some would say that 3B is better than 3C, but I’ll just say “Different” :frowning:

I think that we need some 3A - 3D, and 4A…. Ok, 4D if you can’t find the 4A.

JMHO,
-Chuck

Your calling Simon the same level as a politician?! :open_mouth:
Doesn’t BLF have rules against foul language?

We need common sense flashlight control laws. Ban extended battery tubes. There is no need for multicell flashlights on the streets. Won’t somebody please think of the children?

I must admit I hesitated posting again because I was frustrated with a response from Simon that this new L2 will only have XM-L2 emitter options and no extension tube. I told him BLF would be very disappointed with that choice. His response was reassuring. He said this first new L2 is just a transitional model and he is already planning the next version with an extension tube and plans to accommodate our wishes for, if not supply an XHP emitter. So he is listening. He didn’t have our desire list in time to factor them into this first run. I think all he was focusing on was “Bring back the L2!”. He wishes to emphasize that this is just a transitional model and the next version will be more to BLF liking. I still think the new version looks awesome and I want to have one in my hands before passing judgment…

Why? Not sure what this comment is about…

Please remember to NOT incorporate integrated charging - we don’t need it, really. It will just hinder the modding capabilities! If the L2 comes back, it should be an absolute GREAT moddable host giving GREAT performance - This IS important

Maybe you’d feel jambed up holding a flashlight in the palm of your hand with only one cell in length and a side switch. Add another cell, now you have some room and balance. Just guessing?

I don’t think he has any plans to incorporate internal charging in the L2. He said he’s going to send me one I just don’t know when. I can’t wait though. Just based on the one picture that thing looks like a tank!

Integrated charging can be done without interfering with modding. Look at the Eagle Eye X6R. I, for one, would like integrated charging (as long as a good cc/cv chip is used).

I vote no sideswitch button, no integrated charging. Just my 2c

I’ve never had a light with integrated charging but I can see the appeal for some. The convenience factor is nice and they make nice gifts for those uneducated in lithium safety. From what I’ve heard Simon’s lights that have built in charging do use quality charging componets. Maybe someone who owns one can chime in.

+1, don’t make it too complicated. Keep it easy and the price will be lower.
Can’t wait to see some real pictures/video.

I hate charging on lights because it adds to cost and weight and I don’t trust it and won’t use it.

But I love electronic side switches. The only lights that I trust to start in the mode I left them are the ones with electronic side switches.

I have to take it back what I said earlier.
I like a side switch when the light has 2 cells in series, or when the body is just too fat (though I have not any experience with a side switch light :D)
Also the driver has the have a great UI, one of the most important things ofcourse.

But still, an integrated charger isn’t something that I want.

The L2 is a very nice light. For me I would like a host with extension and side switch. No internal charging. But really, even the old L2 would be nice to have back around as long as the price is decent.

The Yezl Y3 works like a charm, no extension tube…

It is not that he does not want to. I have said it several times. It is just a money thing. Simon is the manufacturer but he does not have deep pockets. He and I discussed this stuff in detail with things that we "thought of" :)

He obviously has access to the host but no extension meaning that requires more money spent in advance to have extensions manufactured..and even at that how many? Large quantities are needed for decent pricing. Same goes with the emitters. He most likely already owns an inventory of XML2's. XPL and XPL Hi is again more money and a large quantity again would be needed to get good pricing...and what would he do with all the XML2's?

Simon can buy smaller quantities but then the light's cost increases dramatically and then nobody wants it.

All in all Simon does a great job as a one man band! :)

“He most likely already owns an inventory of XML2’s. XPL and XPL Hi is again more money and a large quantity again would be needed to get good pricing…and what would he do with all the XML2’s?”

.

Among the myriad S-x versions that he produces, I don’t think that he will have to eat them.

Thanks,
-Chuck

Yes but looking at Mouser a qty of 250 can equal $7/ea. A qty of 1000 can equal $3.50 ....plus copper

So if he builds only 250 the price really jumps. I have seen others buy elsewhere for $1 less and that happens with Convoy products all the time. If he builds 1000...who is going to buy them?

Now....if a buy was setup with true commitments possibly even a small deposit to offset initial outlay then he would probably be able to do that. He really is a "little guy". We had in depth discussions when I was taking to him about designing/building/selling a headlamp. His margins are nowhere near as great as many think. Anything is possible. It just takes money ;)

I agree with most of the part you said bugsy36. That being said, why the original Convoy L2 has extension tube but when it comes to the new design it suddenly becomes so expensive to make an extension tube for it?
