A finned and milled head, assault crown and some knurling - that describes >80% of all flashlights 
I had hoped so too originally but it’s not, at least this time around. Simon had to stop producing the first L2 because there was just no profit. Way too much material cost. That’s why this rendition does not have stainless. I’m still looking forward to it though. Should have serious throw and runtime.

If it's anything like a WF-1300L (sold at Kaidomain.com), it will be a beast of metal! I modded one, and it's one of the bulkiest, heaviest lights I even seen or worked on - great heat sinking, not so great on carrying:

Well, at one time I guess it was pretty amaz'n, think 4-5 years ago. Stock I measured 1054 lumens, after the mods of 7 XM-L2 U2's, wire and resistor mods, it does 3750 lumens.

Might as well chuck this in here. I’ve been playing around with the original L2 and a XHP-50 in direct drive. Reading 100K lux at 4A draw ( Panasonics at 4V each), the beam isn’t perfectly uniform but its pretty good. I haven’t tried anything more then that as I’m not sure how much the tailcap will take.
I’ve made a couple of 1300+ lumen 300K lux+ torches before but I’m very impressed with this setup, huge beam and anything out to 200m is like daylight. I will try stick some beam shots up sometime, no promise tho as my to-do and project list is the longest its ever been.
BTW: anyone able to suggest a good <20mm 8.4V 4A driver with nice simple modes?

Thanks for the suggestion, $22 is a little rich though so I think I’ll go for a Zener moded AMC7135 driver.
I agree the buck drivers are too expensive, with good reason. One also has to take precaution around heat management. Wish adapters for parallel cells, back to back, was more popular, well, for that matter actually existed standard… This will make things just so much more practical. I have the same issue with the UF-1405 which I want to run at 4.2V. You’d say just get the 1504, sure, but I want the twin cells for better run time and less voltage sag when direct driven.

Me too. Originally Simon was going to try to send one to me by the end of this month. I just got an email from him last night that it’s not going to be ready in time. New goal is around the second week in October. They have a number of holidays over there that interfere with production time. This time it’s Mid Autumn Festival and National Day. Wish we had that many holidays in the US. :~

I just wish we took our holidays as seriously. I don’t need to be able to buy junk on the actual holiday! I’d rather see people free on Christmas, Christmas Eve and every other significant holiday. Stores should be damn glad I’m not King. It would be mandatory 10x overtime pay for working on Christmas (non-essential jobs). Let the poor people go home.

That’s assuming he’s buying his parts overseas and importing them, I think, and that the price for him is the same.
I’d been wondering about that after reading bits of Paul Midler’s book — he says that at least at the large scale the costs of materials are state-controlled in China so there is no real economy of scale the way we’d think of it. A small lot costs the same as a large lot per unit.
I really don’t know how this works at the scale of making and assembling small electronics like flashlights.

Halo - I hear with you on the holiday issue… except I’m not sure why the essential people don’t get the same overtime pay. 
hank - I don’t understand it either. I know Simon is not getting rich in China making Convoy lights even though they are his own brand. It’s hard enough for a truly honest businessperson in any country to make it but it seems exceptionally hard in China. In my opinion he should be doing quite well for the work he’s done bring such quality lights at very reasonable cost yet I don’t know if that’s the case.
I’ll do my best and share what I can but I sure don’t have all the answers…

I bought some TrustFire flashlights earlier this year that had quality control tags dated December 24 and 25.
