looking for SOLID 1amp (and 1.4 amp) drivers

Ok, so ive ran into a few problems.  recently, my custom q5 build (my first ever) which consisted of

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11023

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.15687

and this driver

http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.1885

(my driver was alot nicer than the pictured ones. green board, 3 amc's and 2 surface mount resistors)

Originally, up until about 3 weeks ago, the flashlight would draw no more than 1.05 amps (DEAD ON!!!) from an 18650 trustfire (flame version)

recently, i noticed however, it was REALLY bright and really hot....

when i tested it, it was drawing OVER 2 amps!!!!!

ok, so i thought, bad regulator, let me put a new one in.

GUESS WHAT!? same problem

soooooooooo ive decided after two shots with this regulation circuit, its better if i just buy a different circuit.....

I want something that is higher quality, and only one mode

and i need one for my r5 build too. something 1.4 amps on that one.

thanks guys

I have the shiningbeam driver in one of my xp-g mods and it works well. 1.42A at the tailcap @4.20V. Modes are very well spaced.

If I were you , id check for a short , if it was a multi mode driver it would be as simple as checking if the modes still worked ..

A mild short often drives up the current ..  Just thought it worth mentioning ...

Always remember , the easiest thing in the world to do , is to expel hot air from your lungs and through some vocal chords ..
The resulting sound may , or may not be worth listening too ….

Yes, its the same model but it has 4x 7135 [4x 350mA]  (Two together are commonly used to power a P7 at 2800mA)

Apart from these two models, I think you just have the classic sku7882 to regulate it by eye...

(On the other hand, depending on the dissipation and ambient temperature, may be the best option)

The NANJG-18 sku.7882 is a bad choice for driving a low Vf LED like an XP-G R5 from a LiIon. It's a pure boost driver and will go into direct-drive if Vin is higher than Vout, with only a Schottky diode in the the current's path to drop some excess voltage. So with a LiIon fresh off the charger you end up with something like 3.8V to the LED, which is fine for an XR-E, but can fry an XP-G.

damn. well maybe ill just keep trying the DX 1050ma ones til i get one that isnt fried.

then ill just buy the 20 1400ma ones from DX, because eventually any light that blows will be replaced with an R5.

i dont like multimodes on something in that power range neways. however my p7 and MC-E i like to have at least a low and high lol

these already: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.6190

Apparently they don't get warm at all. I take this as good sign.
