*** The great Skyray King shootout Fall 2015 ***

This is how it is.

i pick the best modified SRK lights i have in my arsenal,.
four of them,
put them up against a modded FF Warrior, a stock SRK, and a brand-new modded 2015-Edition Fenix TK75vn modded by the one & only Vinh Nguyen.

the distance from the tripod to the Park table is 50 meters, ( 150 feet) the camera is a Nikon D5100 DSLR, using a AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR lens set at the same configuration for all photos using a remote control shutter control. (*also Adobe-Gamma-corrected to show how these are seen with the Human eyes on your monitor.

Here goes:

First photo below: - the modded 2000 + lumen Six-Nichia 219B SRK:

second below: - a modded XM-L2 7D4 natural Warm White SRK:

Third below: - a Modded by OldLumens SRK with JB Driver / DD driver:

Fourth Below: - a DBSAR modded Direct drive (Driverless) SRK Kung / four XM-L2 U2 1A / Noctigon 14+ Amps

Below: - a Stock “original” Sky Ray king with the three-torrid driver.

Below: - a moddified FandyFire Warrior with XM-L2 4C emitters.

and finally below for reference… the brand-new modded Fenix 2015-Edition TK75VN thrower:

Now below are the collage of the SRK lights with the extra two added for reference.
These SkyRay kings are my best & favorite bear can lights, especially the 2000lm Nichia version and DD wall-of-light-hand-burner-LED-cooker Kung.

These are the Best of the Best Beer-Can SRK lights i have. Do you have any good modded Beer-Can lights? - lets see them!

*EDIT: i forgot to add the “Monster-Light”. ( the OldLumens-built triple MT-G2/ eight 18650/20+AMP 11000+lumen wall-of-lLight to this comparison. (for reference that light is at least 50% brighter flood than the driverless SRK 14-amp Kung in this shootout.

Very nice beamshots, also some nice mods done looks like.

Very good for tint and overall light output comparisons with these lights.

Thanks for posting!!!

Your welcome. the six-Nichia is my favourite tint, and the DD Kung is the best flooder of this group. (though it gets critically hot after just 60 seconds running) and the new TK75vn is the best thrower i have in my collection. I forgot to add the monster 11000lm OL triple MT-G2/eight-18650/ 20+amp light to this comparison. (which is at least twice as bright as the DD SRK 14-Amp Kung.

Thanks for posting. Some really good beam shots for comparison. The Sky Ray King stock model does well. Is there anywhere these can be bought with confidence that they are built and perfrom as expected?

The DD Kung seems awesome.

Nice! I also have a single SRK modded with XM-L2 U2 7D4 WW LEDs, and that tint looks pretty much how I see it. Thanks for the beamshots! I wish there was a place to get a reliable old style SRK suitable for modding.

sadly it is getting very difficult to find the “original” 3-torrid drivered Skyray King. 95% of them sold now are lower powered knock-offs and fakes. I only have one original i bought nearly 4 years ago from DX when these impressive pop-can-sized lights were first introduced. I have bought several of the new fakes but they don’t even come close to the original Torrid-driver version, or near the quality of build.
As for the DD driverless Kung that thing is a hand-held monster flooder.

I agree, the XM-L2 U2 7D4 CREE emitter in these beats the hell out of any Incan/Halogen light i ever had for output, while matching that warm Tungsten filament beautiful warm traditional tint.

It’s my warmest light by far, and yeah it’s like an incan on steroids. It gets burning hot if you leave it on for 10 minutes, as in, you-can’t-hold-it hot.

I agree that the SRK lights were limited in how much heat-sinking they could provide for the size and output they could be modded to, but I still like the fact that 6K+lumens of intruder-stopping-power can be extracted from a small light than can fit in a hoodie pocket is still impressive.

I forgot to add a photo of the lineup of these Lights in this beam shoot out.

Below from left to right:

4C-modded Warrior ,
OL JB-Driver SRK,
Stock Original (3-torrid driver) SRK,
DD 14+ amp SRK Kung,
XM-L2 7D4 SRK,
Six-Nichia 219B SRK,
Fenix TK75vn (2015 Edition)

All these lights were tested using fully charged Samsung 25R High-Drain 18650 cells.

Thanks for the awesome work man! The beamshots are gorgeous. What is your preferred tints in there guys?
I’m seeing myself like the 4c warrior and the tk75 ones

No love for the supfire m6 ?

sadly i do like the Supfire M6, but never got the opportunity to find one to add to my collection.

U2 7D4? Didn’t think U2 bin was possible in tint that warm. Sorry, just picking nits., nice comparison.

You might be correct, i have a habit of typing U2 after XM-L2

I like my 5000 mAhr 10440’s too.

5000 mAhr 10440’s?

He is making a point about “acceptable” typos 5000 = 500 get it?

It was definitely a joke recalling false capacity/output claims and not intended as a rebuke. I merely assumed the light in question was listed as it was described at the time of purchase and chuckled over the unlikely hood.

Thanks for posting. Some really good beam shots for comparison. I have some Sky Ray King models.
