He has only told me I could offer that for the blue S2+, L2 and L2 host. You ask but I donāt want to push it myself. His lights are already a great value IMHO. Heās not publishing these as official discount codes heās just taking care of his friends and fans here at BLF.
I will. The green is on hold while we wait for a darker sample from the manufacturer. As far as the red and blue shorty host if you just buy a standard host and ask him to add in a single short tube youāre only talking about an extra $2.45 and then you have a single light you can swap from short to long whenever you feel like it. I donāt want to make promises for Simon but Iām fairly certain he would have no problem doing that.
The tactical ring on the X6 is removable. Useless it is not, With such a big light as the X6 the tactical ring is a great hand stop, for when you let it slip in your hand to get to the push button, in a hurry! I have 5 off them modded differently and really use the tactical ring for this purpose, it beats using 2 hands Just my 2cent!
Another thing I would like to see and feel is a little more aggressive knurling. Like the Jax X6 with medium knurling, could stand a more robust knurling. :~ Letās face it people you will not be EDCāing this one. And with the XHP70 pumping out so much heat, these lights are better suited for cold weather use, like in Search and Rescue, spotting for critterās, Hunting, Ice fishing or any other outdoor activity. Where the use of gloves will be needed. Real use in a real world not sitting on some shelf going looky what I got!! Again just my 2cent!!!
I'm gonna order the shorty tubes along with an L2. Really like'n the newer design of the SS switch (2nd gen?) that's in the blue ones. Not sure if the red's got updated to the new switch?
Yes... Well, I think I saw them somewhere... The 2nd gen sticks out further - easier to engage. Not sure of any other changes with it. Might be early in the big blue S2+ thread. I got both but no pics, but held them up against each other and saw the same thing - sticks out further (little) making it easier to switch. Doesn't effect tailstanding - still tailstands well.
Hey thanks for posting that link. I got a message from Simon this morning that he was adding it but it wasnāt there the last time I looked. Iāll add it to the OP later today.
All 4 cents from your posts noted. I hadnāt though about the āgrip stopā or āslip stopā function of the tactical ring so I have to retract my āuselessā comment. It doesnāt look like itās removable on the Jax but Iām only going by pictures. Iām not sure if itās enough for me to want it on the L2 but you make a good point. I can tell you first hand this beast is heavy. I just got my stock L2 from Simon this morning. All I had time to do is charge a cell and light up a shop wall so far but I can tell you the beam was much brighter than I expected from a stock light with a very tight hot spot. In fact itās the tightest hot spot Iāve personally seen from a dome-on emitter. Iāll report back once I get a chance to use this thing at night but so far Iām quite impressed. This thing really throws!
When I was reading through my old messages from Simon, he said that he will be making a XHP version in the future. Letās hope that it will have a one piece tube like the Jax X6. Or better yet, have a larger head too. J)
I canāt make any promises about a bigger head but Iām fairly certain the one piece tube is going to happen. I will do my best to make sure of it. I took my new L2 outside with what I figured was my best comparison light. My comparison light is a favorite of mineā¦ a XinTD C8 with spring bypass in the tail, FET driver (Wights A17DD-S08) XM-L2 U3 1A (dome on) on a 20mm Noctigon putting out 1580 at the start and 1525 lumens at 30 seconds in turbo and pulling 4.84A at the tail on a freshly charged LG HE2. The lumen numbers are from a trusted, calibrated light sphere owned by a good friend. I donāt have one myself so my comparison is my eyes only. My New L2 is running on the only 26650 I own which is a King Kong 4000 mAh ICR26650 also freshly charged. When I took them outside (I live far from the city, nice and dark) to my naked eye the L2 probably puts out a few less lumens but has a noticeably tighter hotspot and throws further. Iām also much happier with this driver than any other Convoy I own. The 3 modes are very well configured. The low is not moon but it is lower than standard low, medium is just what it should be and the high is sweet. I also tested the hidden strobe which worked perfectly and was not once triggered by accident in an hour of fiddling. I am honestly far more impressed with the stock form than I expected to be. In my opinion this light has HUGE modding potential. It will be even better IMO with the double 26650 tube. When some of you skilled flashlight builders have at this thing itās going to be absolutely amazing! Iāve always been a fan of Simonās work but this one exceeded my expectations. Iām looking forward to a few more expert opinions.
Why would you say that? Nobody is asking him to stop making the existing host, just that he add a double cell tube option for those that want it. I sure do. Like KawiBoy1428 said. This is not an EDC light. Itās heavy. Built like a tank. IMO because of the massive yet beautifully styled head the tube seems a little short. Large hands will find they need more to grip and I think it will just overall balance the light much better. Donāt get me wrong, I love the existing designā¦but I will love a longer tube even more.
