Recommended Wall Mounted Battery powered Reading Light for 2 year old child?

Hi.

I’m currently trying to find a very low powered light that I can use to read to my kids with in a dark room that’s wall mountable and AA or AAA powered?

I’ve tried loads of different mains powered lights, and the kids keep on playing with them, including pulling the cables, so I’m looking for a battery powered light that I can mount on a wall while reading them a story, then take away when finished. As a reading light, I’m looking for a gentle flood.

I know it’s probably a strange ask, but most lights I find are all about the “power”, and are just too bright, and they generally are a pain to wall mount, so at the moment I’m using an old AAA Maglite, with original halogen bulb, but that’s a pain to keep on the book while reading.

I’m thinking a magnetic mount, screwed onto the wall, and a bar light, or similar, at a set angle to it, but all the (admittedly cheap) bar lights I’ve found are again all about power.

If anyone knows of a suitable (£20 GBP) solution ( other than gaffer taping the kid’s hands while they are in bed), it’ll be appreciated!

Ta

maybe something like this one from ikea, Todos los productos - Diseño y calidad al mejor precio - IKEA

These are useful lights, and can be found pretty cheap.

I’d suggest this Solarforce lens Solarforce "close-up" convex lens

that thread lists a HK source

It gives a lovely smooth flood.
Then put a hang point above child reach and just bring the light in and out with you.

That way if you find the kids have any trouble getting to sleep you can easily use a non-blue-light source for the evening reading (amber LED or just yellow filter film on the light)

Thanks, that’s a great link, and surprising I’ve missed it as i’ve been looking on their site for a while :frowning:
I guess the light will be a little too bright, given it’s aim at bathrooms, and therefore probably for shaving/makeup, but with space in the body for a mod, could be a perfect host!

I’ve had one of those for a while, but don’t find it a particularly nice light for reading with, not sure why.

Thank you, that’s a good shout. I’m currently planning to mod up a “lidl” torch I picked up for peanuts yesterday, and that might be the perfect lens.

How about a book light

Not recommending either of the above, just two I came across, just though something of that style of light might work for your purpose

Kind of out of the mainstream, but we have one of these for the knitter in the family to use late at night while we’re avoiding blue-white lights…
It has an orange clip-on filter for that purpose, still plenty bright without the blue-white “wakefulness” wavelengths.
Or of course use it as a white light:

2 years old isn’t he too young to read?
