Skilhunt DS16 XP-L AA/14500 flashlight review

Why don’t you resize images?

Im using advanced editor and cant seem to find a way to add relative size as in regular editor.
Any advice appreciated. <- Thanks, djozz, it worked ;)!

Ive put them to 600x399px, but it looks like they are taken from image upload service in full size and then simply resized on the fly by forum engine, sorry for that!

Is that all you can say about this review, lol :D?
I will try to upload smaller sized images next time I do a review bear with me until then ;)!

But overall Ive said pretty much everything there is to this light from my perspective, so you can suffice without pictures as well, you wont miss much ;)!

I don’t read reviews much, I just check pictures and these take forever to load and I am using mobile network, but thanks for the review

A weird working feature in the advanced picture editor is when you use the box that let you define the amount of pixels to just fill in "100%", it is correctly picked up by the editor.

Runtime on high was 2h 38min with battery showing 3.08V without load when it shut down, review updated and thus appears to be finalised :D.

Thanks for the nice review btw.

AA-lights need to be slim IMO because many of them are the size of a small 18650 light which I then will prefer because of the power and runtime. Apart from this light being too fat for my taste: I do like the design and capable reflector. :-)

A good light especially to give away with its good output and runtimes….However, the price is a bit steep. IMHO, I’d be more tempted under $30

Yep, I agree - recent Olight S15R deal has pretty much spoiled us in regards to price-performance of good AA/14500 lights :D!

I asked GB in their flash sales thread if they will offer this light on flash sale, Fasttech sells it for around 32$ which is cheapest Ive seen from usual sellers.

Will PM GB and ask them directly, see what they say ;)!

So far my only half-valid complaints would be that the low mode should be lower just like on S15R and switch should be redesigned to be not as protruding.

Great review and definitely tempted to get one from fastech, the DS21 looks nice too. Do you have that one in the works as well?

Nice review. Thank you.

Thank you folks, given that Im not a professional reviewer and just happen to make em once in a few years, good to see that you like them enough to come here and leave a comment lol :D!

Since Im both not in posession of lux meters, discharge analyzers as well slightly lazy to do reviews just like others do with all those graphs and beamshots, I focus more on my own experience, comparison after real world use with other lights I own and my thoughts of what use if any these lights might have for me, not being too superficial and shallow yet not getting crazy with graphs, there are other folks who do very good reviews with graphs so I will leave that to them.

No, they did not send me DS21, I suppose it might be because my previous reviews had some NiMh powered lights so they decided to give out DS16 for testing ;)! Didnt have any 18650/lithium only lights reviewed when they sent me DS16.

Nice review!

Thanks for sharing your work.

I am currently EDC'ing the L3 Illumination L11C Nichia 219B. It has great tint, and runs on 1xAA. Mode spacing is good: 0.09, 3, 30, and 140 lumens. Cost was around $35 USD shipped.

I would like to find a 1xAA budget flashlight that has neutral tint, flat regulation, and a good beam. I don't really need 14500 capability, especially if that complicates driver design. Cost should be in the $20 ballpark.

The Skilhunt DS16 is not quite what I am looking for.

Added runtime on medium mode - 8 hours 2 minutes, few minutes before shutdown low voltage warning kicked in, battery was 3.0V.

Exactly what I was looking for in AA light, beats S15R in this regard :D!

Thanks again for the review and reply on the Ds21. I’m itching more and more to get this light.

Youre welcome!
Ive asked Gearbest if they can make flash sale or coupon on this one, but it seems that it will be only worthwile if its flash sale+your GB points(if you have any that is) because their response was that basically best price is close to one at Fasstech ;)!

Veer thanks for the review.

Looks like a nice little light, those Skilhunt folks build some good stuff. Thanks for your review.

Only 4 images loaded for me :frowning:
P.S. I also got DS16 from Skilhun for a review, for free, now I do not know where to post my reveiw :frowning:
P.S.S. I like short power off on this light…

What do you mean you dont know where to post it?
Is it 1:1 exact as the one I did? Im sure its not, so take your time, rip that light apart and youre done :D!
People constantly post reviews of the same lights here on BLF and each one of them have their own style ;)!

Regarding images - its either your internet connection or image hosting that Im using, they had problems loading for me yesterday, works fine now tho.

Oh and after I did turbo, high, medium and low runtime tests on Olight S15R which turned out to be much lower than what Olight claim to be I can say that despite lack of moonlight mode DS16 is now my current favorite AA powered EDC light ;)!

Thanks for the review! Skilhunt makes a nice light, but they still need to work on their mode spacing it seems.
