Keep in mind that for decent performance you’re still going to need NiMH or lithium-primary to get good performance for more than a few minutes. Alkalines suck under load. The Nitecore EA45S is probably your best bet. Nitecore has been offering neutral versions of some of its recent lights, but I’m not sure if that one’s included. I’d be surprised if it actually hits its claimed 402m FL1 throw, but it should be up there with the current generation of compact 18650/XP-L HI lights like the Armytek Dobermann HI.
The Javelin is a good thrower, based on P60 dropin modules… This give you good choice of reflector type, LED type and driver. You can use 14500’s with the correct dropin as well.
UI issues where the light would go blank between modes, ie, instead of, say, low-medium-high you would often get low-off-high etc.
Plastic body, metallic head, plastic threads on body wore out on mine after less than 20 head removals.
Dirty reflector with debree parts and dust particles under it, tried to remove the lens, but only ended up scratching the retaining ring, might have to make some tools for this anyway.
So, for 22-23$ I paid at that time it seemed like a bargain with neutral/warmish XM-L2, however major drawbacks are UI issues as well as easy wearing threads.
HKEquipment have EA8W (W stands for warm white) for 45$, takes 8xAA, good thrower, I have one, love its UI, havent used it much, but good light:
I highly recommend a Thrunite T4N. Comes in NW and mine makes an impressive 1400 OTF. Better quality than any other multi-AA light I have and throws extremely well.
Nitecore MT21A also should throw pretty well with its 10k cd.
Not a fan of Nitecore though due to their history of stealing other peoples ideas, not that its something unique from Chinese companies though :D!
No, I still had the search open in a different window. I spelled it right. Yeah, I’d like to get an original Sipik, if such a thing exists. Not much in the way of intellectual property rights there.
As long as you get SK68 with real Cree LED, youre good to go, add extension tube for 2xAA/3xAA setup from cheap police style AA/2xAA flashlights and that thing will throw with AA’s like with 14500 ;)!
Hey mate! You can find the nitecore ea41 now for a reasonable price it uses 4 AA batteries has 1020 lumen and a throwing distance of 335m I have one it does throw far that is for sure! I think it out throws my convoy c8! What is your preferred amount of AA you want to use?
Yeah, if the SK68’S we eternal the same as a couple years ago, it’d be great . Heard a lot about the LB emitters. I like being able to get 14500 performance out of AA’s, where do you get tubes?
Wow, out throws a C8? That sounds great. It just seems easier to find 2 than 4 or 8, but 1020 lumens sounds great.
I’ll look at the TN4A, good to know about the SA-22.
I like that idea. Where do you find SK 68’s with solid pills? Saw a thread on that. Then I could put a warm or neutral led in there, most of the really bright ones are cool white, unfortunately.
I think the SK68 +14500 is about the same lumens as the caveman above, so it would be great if I could duplicate SK68 +14500 with AA’s
