Review: Jaxman e3 UV 365nm (Pic Heavy)

Thought I’d write a review of the Jaxman E3 UV light that turned up today as I’ve not seen one anywhere else.
My first review, so will not be up to a great standard. Forgive me.

This is my first UV light, bought for tracking Rodent Pee and Luminesent Powder, and i don’t have any 18650’s or supporting equipment, so on BLF recommendation, went this way to keep prices down.

Anyway:

Rear button Clicky, a Single AA form UV light (Speced 365nm) with Visible light filter. Ordered via AliExpress.

I’ve not pulled the pill yet, need a proper extractor, but not sure i can be fussed at the moment.

General:

Seems reasonably built, O-Rings provided at lens, Front section, and Button Section. No obvious greasing though.

O-Ring in front of the lens is UV reactive in Green.
Visible Output is pretty low, but enough to slowly, carefully wander around a pitch black loft looking for UV reactive stuff.

UV reaction is blinding on white. However, i’ve not been successful in finding Rodent Pee, which has really surprised me as i’ve managed to catch 12 mice so far, so seriously expected some reaction. Loads of other Green, Blue and Red reactive stuff found - spiders, algae/moss, bug shells, white cabling etc, but no mouse pee.

I’ve tried it on a recyclable AA, and a lithium AA, seems a minor difference, so assuming direct drive, but not sure until i pull the pill out.

In the second action shot, you can see the green cast given by the UV reactive o-ring - At close enough range, this can be enough to swamp any reactions.

LED details - unknown, haven’t pulled the pill, and can’t see with the visible filter in place!

Onto the pics - Apologies, I can’t find my SLR, so the photo’s aren’t great.

Tail detail - Central spring!

Throw/Flood at ~50cm from a white netting curtain.

If you there is any questions about it, or anything you want me to try out, let me know and i’ll try and do it.

Thanks for the review, I was curious about this one. :-)

Pity that does not do what you wanted it to do, you may want to be closer to 400nm for that after all?, for the rest it looks like a well build light. I do not understand the green gitd ring, you may miss weakly fluorescing stuff because of that. I would replace it with a black one.

For a cheap 400nm light to test: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10004661/1358900-uniquefire-602c-uv-3w-395-410nm-ultraviolet-uv , it has a surprisingly good output but again it requires a li-ion cell (16340 size).

Cool! Do you have a link? Do they take Paypal? Does it have modes? This seems to be built from the thorfire tg06 host which is small and quite good. I’ve been happy with the Jaxman u1 so this should be good too. And in AA!

I will need to get one. But will swap out the glow ring.

Thanks for the review and your thoughts.

That looks like the same host as the ThorFire TG06.

Thanks for review, the pics are fine ;)!

Would be much more itnerested if it could track wildlife :D!

Thanks for the feedback.

The link to the light is http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-Shipping-JAXMAN-365nm-UV-Flashlight-Torch-for-Fluorescent-Security-Detection-Stamp-Banknotes-Identify/32327280432.html, I bought it at £14 (21USD), it’s now £16 (25 USD)+ delivery. Unfortunately they don’t take paypal ( I did ask at the time of ordering)

It’s not got any modes other than “off” and “on” - no dimmers or anything.

I’ve now played with it with a UK £20 and £50, and the UV markers show correctly, so appears to be outputting at 365nm as specified.

I meant to mention that it also comes with 2 spare white O-Rings.

I cam across this review because I saw the E3 on aliexpress and thought “oh, that looks like a TG06!” which indeed is a nice host.

I looked further, and found this one.

Notice anything different?

The extension tube

yup. I wouldn’t mid having that extension for my TG06, even though it would make the clip placement a bit odd

Hi all,

I'm reviving this old thread, hoping to get the following information which I can't deduce from the pictures (no longer visible): how floody is the beam?

You mean how spotty?
Check out my copy here:
taschenlampen-forum.de/threads/großer-tlf-uv-vergleich-13-verschiedene-lampen.47881/

And yes, she’s so strong you can’t even see the emissing frequency

Vielen Dank für den Vergleich angerdan!

As far as I can see the Jaxman E3 lacks power compared to most other lights, looks like 18650 is the way to go, rather than AA.

So I'll probably choose a Convoy, S2 with LG LED rather than S2+ with Nichia, since the former is more floody according to reports in another BLF thread.
