*Olive* S6/Xiaozhi mod - 219c + lighted tailcap + failure

Djozz: if you like the red eye that much, feel free to reproduce it

Pyro: I’m satisfied with how it turned out, but that sounds promising. I didn’t realize XQ’s were that small

This is cerakoted I’m assuming? Nice looking light either way!

Nope

Cool attempt for red+219C configuration, I am huge fan of such combo. Soldering small parts requires a lot of patient, which I seriously lacking off now. Your mod also reminds me of tterev3's crazy RGBUV SC02

Nitecore's twin emitters design is preferred layout for optimum beam profile and brightness.

Can I trade more lights with your pre-assembled tailcap LED in future?

Just as an FYI the Cree “photo red” aka 660nm leds are more robust and have a higher vf then the regular 615-360nm reds.

Is there a way to wire them in series and then (both) in parallel with the main led?

Or maybe that is just crazy?

care to share?

Just normal anodization. They’re not readily available right now, but maybe if there is enough interest the powers that be might pick it up.

Maybe that is not going to happen. Their supply has depleted quite a bit over the weeks. Previous gun metal grey has already sold out.

One seller has produced an limited AA version flashlight.

I’ve actually destroyed 3 or 4 S2 reflectors trying to drill a hole to do that very thing. I might have to take another stab at it some time, as I agree that is probably the best solution.

There are plenty of ways to get extra red modes it. It’s just about having the right firmware and driver for it, with the correct implementation. It’s actually very difficult.

@pilotdog68
You can see the xq-e leds here

Nice little mod, shame that they popped after all that work :(

Yeah normally I’m more upset when something that took so much tedious work fails, but the light ended up being so nice anyways.

@pilotdog68 By the way, is your clip painted?

Yes. I tried a tough, baked-on enamel, but it just cracked and flaked off when I screwed it down. So I ended up going with plastidip, a sort of latex-y rubberized paint.

Listed in Kaidomain now.

Nice!

Any links for the AA version?

Search for Thorfire TG05

Yup, got one of those, the silver was the interest… The other thing is that these are usually made by a 3rd party and sometimes you can find alternate Anodizing colors by finding other links… Like the pic FreeMe had posted. Or the OP of this “S6” in Olive…

I think the AA version of this is one of the most stout bodies for AA that I have seen, the only one I can run a FET driven Nichia 219C in without having it become too hot to hold in 10 seconds or less. A thick body tube really helps act as a heatsink, much needed being 14500 only now with the FET.

I am going to get one of these Olive bodies too, but was really hoping to find if the AA version has other anodizing colors as well…

Sweet mod PD68. Really like how you rigged the reds, even though they were not included in the final implementation.

Seems like we could design some OSH Park PCB's that have thermal pad thru-holes sized for a specific gauge copper wire.
