*** The great Skyray King shootout Fall 2015 ***

He is making a point about “acceptable” typos 5000 = 500 get it?

It was definitely a joke recalling false capacity/output claims and not intended as a rebuke. I merely assumed the light in question was listed as it was described at the time of purchase and chuckled over the unlikely hood.

Thanks for posting. Some really good beam shots for comparison. I have some Sky Ray King models.

This is an older thread yes but I am interested in buying a skyray. I am a novice so don’t know where to buy from but I wouldn’t mind buying them already modded with a higher out put. Can anyone please point me in the direction of some one who sells new, genuine, already modded, skyray led light, that maybe won’t cost an arm and a leg. Thanks for all help/knowledge

There are a ton of Skyray King clones out there, and many of them real bad. its difficult to find a real original unless you can find one from a member who has one to sell. The Securitying version is not bad, and i think BrotherHuang1983 on Ebay still sold the “good” Skyray Kung 4-XM-L version, (unsure lately though) Many of the multi emitter versions, ( 4 or 5 emitters up to 9 emitters) are usullay way under driven, and all need some modifications to really get them blasting some output.

If I were to get one if those under driven lights that are being sold. How much would it cost to mod it to produce more light. How hard would it be to mod it. How reliable would the light be after the mod?

I am in the same boat you are kfxrider, I purchased one from a member here and love it. It is a 3 LED with a JB driver. I would not mind doing mods like changing the driver or reflowing LEDs on good copper… But, I would like to at least start with a shell that has a shelf and not a dropin platform or nothing behind 1 big aluminum star.

I cannot afford to chase SRK’s until I find a decent host. I could not find the listed ebay seller.

BTW, the tint on that 7D4 and the 219B looks great! Really like the 7D4!

Matt

The key thing to find is an SRK (or clone) that has a thick heat sink shelf in the body, and one with the JB driver. The JB is easy to mod to really increase output, modes are good, (3 modes with no strobes) an SRK with a custom copper shelf, XM-L2 or XP-L emitters on copper Noctigons, and a modded JB driver really makes these lights shine.

Like I said before I’m a novice. So a lot of what is being said is going over my head anyone have a step by step how to for one of these lights?

Those lights are insane! And every time I read these threads I think about getting a second job to buy flashlights…. :~

Its really too bad that the general public has no clue what a real flashlight is. We’re still selling these for like 30 bucks at my store, and the sad thing is that people buy them.

Many of the Skyray King lights above are modded, though even the stock one awes non-flashlight educated people, but when they see the 14+ amp Kung or TK75vn they nearly crap their pants when noobs see that a beer-can sized flashlight can put out 3 times the light as their car headlights can on high beam.

i ratholed a few m6 just to have them later to do some insane mods.
a triple 219 high cri is next up here…

i need to get a M6 as its one light i don’t have to test, mod, compare, etc.

Love me some SRK’s!!!

My favorite tint is T6 4C…best color rendition for these eyes…best color (but ymmv)

Can anyone point me in a good direction???

sub’ed

a place to buy a good SRK type light?

A place to buy a genuine pop can light by skyray that is already modded or easily modded.

I don;t have any for sale at the moment myself, but if you post a topic requesting one i’m sure some member may have one for sale.

I found the 4C a bit too greenish for my liking. I ended up giving mine away.
