Waiting for the light to turn green - Green Convoy S2+

Got my green S2+ assembled tonight. I now have a Green host with 530nm XP-E2, Blue host with 485nm XP-E2, and a Red host with 660nm XP-E.

Alright, what’s next?

Nice.

But, what are you going to do when Simon comes out with a pink one? Guess you could do a triple with white, white, red. Though you would need selectable led firmware to make it useful.

Lol, I’ve thought about that and don’t really know yet. I also considered “blending” emitters on a triple and that really sounds like a neat idea but I’m not sure how well it would work. Would 2 white + 1 red emitter look pink? I’m not sure, but I may find out.

Supposedly a “desert tan” color is coming soon. I probably couldn’t match that one very well but I’ll want to do something with it. Time will tell. I’m still holding out hope for a safety orange color one day, too. It kinda doesn’t matter what color Simon makes next. I’m going to buy one.

Wow! That is just amazing. I LOVE it! Great pictures too. The triad is gorgeous. The desert tan edition may throw a wrench into the works but I’m sure you’ll figure something out. Purple isn’t out of the question either. It’s my daughter’s favorite color and I told ToyKeeper I’d try for purple on her behalf too. I think four wouldn’t look quite as cool so I guess we have to go for five because a pentagon is just way cooler than a square.

In about 2 weeks the short (18350) tubes will be ready for both the green and black S2+.

Cool, I have one of each on order from rich.

Cool. I’ll have to grab a black one and some clips.

Do anyone think it would make sense to ask Simon to make and sell a new version of the Convoy S2+ with triple Cree or Nichia LEDs?

If it’s equipped with triple 5000K Nichia 219B-VT and ToyKeepers firmware I would buy it immediately. In green with 18350 tube it would be my new EDC.

There are folks on the forum here who build those triples for resale quite regularly. I think you’ll have a hard time convincing simon to do it just because it’s so much more likely to have problems. I accidentally left one of my triples unattended on turbo for just a few minutes once - it melted the carclo optic and burned my hand when I picked it up. Most companies don’t want that sort of liability, and I’m not really sure they should be so easy to buy by just anybody who thinks they want one.

Also thanks for the kind words on my photos above. I’ll definitely be picking up a green shorty tube and of course any new color that comes out. I think I’d probably do another triple in a desert tan. That sounds like something I’d want to actually carry and use, so it would be a departure for me from my colored colored collection. If he builds a purple though I’ll have to get creative on an emitter choice.

I think triples should really use a Toykeeper’s bistro firmware which has an overheat stepdown (requires attiny25/45/85).

Nice!!!

Where can can I order one?

Well said on all fronts. A stock Convoy triple is not in the immediate future. I’m not saying that it will never happen but I don’t see it happening in next year. Plenty of other advancements to focus on. For now if you’re looking to buy a pre-built triple emitter light you should be talking to Richard at Mountain Electronics aka RMM.

I think a S2+ triple would be a tough sell. $20-35 in additional components alone. I have a feeling it wouldn't sell well with the $40+ price point.

Maybe a new tube light designed for the triple mcpcb+ optic to reduce machining costs/build time and get it under $30

Let’s just get the headlamp going.

This, and an AA/14500 S2 !

Oh yeah!!

Found these waiting at home for me

Just in case you guys were wondering:

Yes, I was.

So. How are the clips?
