Review: Crelant 7G5 from intl-outdoor [pics heavy, outdoor beamshots updated!]

Well..MF is selling the Sky Ray i believe for $54, James got it at that price. I got the FandyFire version from DX, $46. $41 is the group deal from DX?

You can get it now for $41.19 from DD.

i like the catapult better...

my catapult v3 will arrive sooon...

You obviously have an unlimited budget. :) When will your TM11 arrive?

i have postponed buying tm11 after reading reviews on cpf.... i can assume 7 out of 10 tm11 owners are having some issues with their unit.

Instead, i just ordered sunwayman v60c, thrunite scorpion v2 and ultrafire wf-504B they will probably arrive by end of this month.

My catapult should arrive on monday..

Coolperl, could you also do a ceiling bounce test of the 7G5 and the Balder BD-4? This way i'll have all the info i'll need before ordering. :)

I wonder how much is the Catapult V3 after discount. It has NW too, but NW is a bit redundant for pure throwers.

BLASPHEMY! NW is never redundant!

Anyway, thats one serious reflector setup there! look at the size of the image of the die, must be one tight hotspot!

I think so too.

OK folks ...I did some more measurements.

2100, take out your wallet , ...as per request I did measurements of current once again, with the same batteries (AW 2200):

Balder BD-4: 1.65A

Thrunite Catapult: 2.05A*

Crelant 7G5: 1.9A

*- the current drawn by Catapult rises in time. It starts from low 1.9A values, and after a minute or so, it settles on 2.05A and remains stable. It seems that the circuit needs some time to reach full speed. (lol ).

Celining bounce test:

Fenix TK45: 20.3 lux

Balder BD-4: 19.3 lux

Thrunite Catapult: 20.5 lux / 21.7 lux*

Crelant 7G5: 20.9 lux

*- without stainless steel bezel

Now the best part. I made throw measurements. The measurements were calculated from 17.88m, so they are a bit higher than in my Balder BD-4 review (where they were taken from approx. 8m).

Fenix TK45: 10560 lux/1m

Balder BD-4: 37250 lux/1m

Thrunite Catapult: 47800 lux/1m

Crelant 7G5: 59100 lux/1m

I repeated measurements in two rounds to avoid errors or mistakes. They were taken after 1 minute from turn on. Catapult managed to reach its full speed, other lights stabilized their LED/MCPCB junction temperature, so these results were stable.

This is most amazing thrower in this size class . If only UI would be more sensible.

ps. ...I almost forgot. PWM is not visible. If it's used, it's way above 5kHz, because this frequency I can detect by rapid waving. When waving 7G5 on low mode, I see just a smooth trace.

Thanks again Coolperl. That is impressive!

Your "modded" Catapult V2 is better than the catapult V3.

Hey, why don't you update your first post with the new info?

Really looking forward to some beamshots..! So Coolpert, you reckon this is worth the $78 then..? :D

Looks good. Lets see if it can outthrow the DBS XR-E aspheric in the real world at a 400m target. (better comparison than a lux meter)

It's a great thrower, but there is poor chance it can beat XR-E with apheric. Tiablo apheric or DBS aspheric were in the 70K-80K lux/1m range (with R2 bin). What I'm sure, is that the beam from 7G5 is much more useful :).

As for outdoor beamshots, I'll try to make them tommorow evening. But no promise... Too many stuff on my head, lately.

Well I am counting on you buddy. This will help me make up my mind if I want this light over the Sunwayman T40CS. I'm still leaning toward getting the Sunwayman anyway because it looks cool to me. And it's got a big wide reflctor on it.

I think the 7G5's reflector is bigger and deeper.

Anyway, Sunwayman T40CS is tough to beat.

The lux readings from the Crelant are phenomenal, yet no interest. Probably because it's neither a cheap or an expensive thrower.

Just received catapult V3

Excellent quality, flawless.....

Here are some photos, sorry for bad quality as i took them with my cell phone

One thing about both Catapult V3 and 7G5 is that they are T-7075, not sure if that gives additional strength in real life.

Man, I am jealous. I really "need" a V3. Quite simply; it seems like it's just a superb flashlight and it's what a high-end/high performance light should look like.

ohhhthehumanityFoy

I agree. I would love to own one but feel they are a little steep on the price. Now $100 and it would probably be mine soon.

I see it's made from 7075 aluminum, so what else has been upgraded over the 7G3?

Because it's still being sold for $75 from SBFlashlights. I guess that was a good deal until the 7G5 was listed for $78 from intl-outdoor :P
