The thread about fixed knife bargains in fasttech, gearbest, ebay or others...

I take it you’re not familiar with Popeye? And Wimpy? Gladly pay you Tuesday for a burger today.

Popeye really don’t need any Ka-Bar anyway.

Yes i know popeye, but from i was a kid. “Wimpy” was “Pilón” in Spain. Still i do not know very well the burger and the feel using a folder but, it does not matter xD

The only Cima folder I’ve used wasn’t good. The fixed blades they have are good… But there are sheath sheath QC problems for some. Finding a good fixed blade under $20 with a good sheath is nearly impossible.

This is incorrect.

The standard Mora Companion, yes, has a thin blade. Look at anything in the Mora Robust, HD or Craftsman line… not so thin at all. The Mora Bushcraft Black, as well as the Mora 2000, issued to Swedish military ground forces, all have thicker blades, up to 3.2mm

Mora of Sweden makes more than just one style of knife blade.

I know it. But some of them are much more expensive than 20$, like the mora black. Others are thicker and cheap but only the carbon steel ones (i do not buy carbon steel because i hate maintenance).
In all way, you can find 4mm to 5mm blades down to 20$ from chinese market.

I purchased one of these Schrade SCHF36 and ended up sending it back twice because the blades were curved. I didn't expect a whole lot from a $30 knife but I couldn't live with a bent blade. They get great reviews but my experience wasn't good.

It seems like it would be less expensive and easier to make a fixed blade knife than these Axis folders with all of the different materials and assemblage .

I don't even need a sheath or handles just a few holes for paracord will do.

Maybe there is little demand for this.

That’s true. You can get thicker blades in that price range. The quality may or may not match a Mora. But sometimes thicker blades are less useful. It depends on the intended purpose. Thicker blades will not cut all materials as well. The difference can be seen in the Mora Companion vs Companion HD.

Going from a 2.0mm blade thickness to 3.2mm puts a good amount more metal behind each cut.

And both balde thicknesses are available in Sandvik stainless. No need to buy only the carbon steel if you don’t want to.

But, if you happen to need or want a thick 4 or 5mm wide blade, go for it. Those will lend themselves well to chopping tree limbs and the like. But 5mm is almost a solid 1/4” wide. That’s a hell of a thick blade. Thems’ be Becker BKx territory!

Some of these 5mm blades are as heavy as a small hatchet.

This knife from chinese shop could fit in the range:

Looks like a lot of clone stuff, using what used to be good brand names out there, just like everything else, but as far as quality, you probably will not know till you get into the real knife forums more, or try buying some stuff. I see some stuff in those searches, that I would try for $10-$15, if I were into fixed blade, but folders have come so far, I don't think I would ever bother with a fixed blade any more, where I couldn't conceal it easily.

Good luck.

The objetive of the thread is to share experiences with chines fixed knives good, if it is possible, true bargain gems. Knives that we have buy and were a great surprise, or simply were good for the price.

In my case:

Buck 480: for the price is ok, if the steel is really 8cr13mov. Good sheath (for you can expect), full tang, beautiful wood handle. But finish so so, scratches on blade, and top of the blade bad finished, a bit like a home made knife… But it is ine of the most popular cheap knife with a lot of reviews, in fasttech. Sharpness is so so. Less than 9$.

The colt in 8cr13mov, too from fasttech is well done, well fit and finish except for the screws that are crashed, but well sharpened. The sheath is horrible. About 9.50$ or so.

The buck 2008 usa design: almost 15 cm of blade is very good, 440 steel, bad finish on the blood lines (i do not know how i can say in english), the wood of the handle does not fit perfectly on the blade but for 11$ are great, good design but finish is not the best. Sheath is soft, like leather but it can not be it.

All are full tang.

It’s “Blood Grooves”, but you make yourself perfectly understandable. H)

Thanks for the detailed report!

This mora looks like a good deal. Hi carbon blade 4 inches long 3.2 mm thick I will order it and report back http://www.ebay.com/itm/291562055388

Here’s a G.I. Tanto from cold steel. Pretty basic over 1/8” thick, 4mm. Best price I’ve seen is around $21.00 but that was a while back. Cold Steel 9733 80pgtk Gi Tanto 7" Carbon for sale online | eBay. The sheath alone is worth $25.00

This Schrade is a lot of knife for the money 1095 thick carbon steel blade. Only problem being, you have to order $95.00 worth of product to get free shipping. They Claim its 1/4” thick, I don’t think so. Still probably around 5.5mm, that is a thick blade, enough for most camp work. Schrade SCHF36 Frontier Fixed 5.05" Black Blade, TPE Handles, Nylon Sheath, Ferro Rod, Sharpening Stone - KnifeCenter They have very good pricing on Schrade.

Anyone have experience with this seller? They got tons of beautiful fixed blade knifes! 8)

I don’t know if they are legit or not. Just looks like another “Ali” store to me. I don’t see a paypal option either. A Quick search of xxxknives at blade forums turned up nothing I could find. Sorry

Cold steel gi tanto is good, but the usa knives are more than double of its price in Europe due to taxes etc. For example the gi tanto in a online shop here has a price of 42 - 45€ plus shipping costs. In dollars a bit more (1€ > 1:money_mouth_face:. For example that seller from ebay do not ship to Spain.
For that the core of the thread was catch bargain knives from China (free shipping to all countries).

Thanks!.

Somebody has tested the hx outdoors d122?
