Review: Crelant 7G5 from intl-outdoor [pics heavy, outdoor beamshots updated!]

Main post updated !!!

There was no fog... but it was windy and cold. I was frozen to the marrow...

Hotspot of Catapult is the same as hotspot from Crelant, when considering size. But the second one is more intense.

Made mouse over / mouse out comparison.

Mouse out: Catapult V2 @ XM-L

Mouse over: Crelant 7G5

Mouse out: Balder BD-4

Mouse over: Crelant 7G5

Ok you got me wanting one now.

Wow, the beam shots seem so similar with the exception of tint.

'coolperl' if you're from Poland why don't you post your reviews on one of local forums?

..In fact, I never thought about it. When I have some free time, I'll make a thread about 7G5. However, this is not a review. Just "my personal impression" thread ...with lots of folks requesting this'n'that about this light :)

M3TAL_L0RD, Thanks buddy!! Great idea with this "mouse over" stuff !! :)

Nice shots!

Very nice indeed…! I really like the beam profile of the catapult and the crelant has a very similar beam profile which is great. I don’t like the darker rings or dark spots on the sunwayman. The hotspot on the crelant looks brighter than the catapult as well.

Well, personal impressions+measurements+informative pics=review.

I've said it before , and I'll say it some more ...

Mouseovers Rock !

Well I think you did a great job! Thanks again for all you do here.

Wow, incredible pictures on this review too coolperl. Sorry I missed it until now! Frontpage'd and Sticky'd.

Been meaning to ask, how usable is the low mode...? What would you estimate it at...? (lumen wise)

It's about 200-250 lumens. How usable is it ? ...It depends. To preserve battery juice - it's quite usable, however when shining on far object, I prefer high mode

Generally, for close distances, I use other flashlights. Throwers are for throw... the brighter, the better. For me, low mode is only for emergencies - when batteries are low or I defenitely don't want more light. But that is rarity.

Different situation is, when you want such flashlight to be floody or be able work on close distances. Then you can buy Olight SR50 diffuser (should fit) or remove the head with the reflector and use the flashlight as a candle. In this case, you get these 200-250lm of pure flood light with over 120 degrees of spread. But again, it's a matter of need and preference. If you don't have any other smaller light with you, low mode of 7G5 is usable.

Frankly 200-250 lumens is quite bright IMHO although maybe not quite 800 lumens bright :D I was just thinking in case this was the only light you had with you how useful it would be when you needed to conserve battery power. The fact that it can tailstand is also quite nifty and something that some of the other throwers can't. The diffuser is a great idea though. You reckon the SR50 diffuser will fit...?

is the 7G5 regulated?

Yes, it's regulated.

Zenbaas, I also find 0.4 lumens useful. Just not with flashlight that big. When, I'm lugging such mace, it means that I need a lot of light with as much throw, as I can get. In low mode it draws about 0.4A from 2x18650 ...so this is still a lot of light. Enough, for illuminatin 150m away targets.

As for the diffuser, both SR50 and 7G5 have similiar head diameter. So I guess it should fit, or at most needs just a little tweak.

Great review coolperl, thank you!

7G5 looks like a poor man's catapult and as I am a poor man who - very much - likes catapult, I might get a 7G5 instead

I am a little confused about Crelant compared to Fandyfire STL-V6 / SkyRay STL-V2. Are they any similar? Does one of them throws better? Has more lumens? Better driver? Better regulation?

I don't think the Crelant 7G5 is poor man's Catapult.

It's an original product, doesn't look like the Catapult, doesn't try to clone a flashlight like those two STLs.

I get the impression this is a step up in throw from the STL-V2/6, at least I hope so as I’ve ordered one of these over those two
