In Amarillo last week a guy purchased an E-cig thingy ... Was walking out the door with it and BANG! It exploded in his hand...luckily away from his face. I think it is as much the circuitry ...or lack of... in the product as the battery. If they don't ban the E-cigs, they best get a handle on how they are made. I agree with whoever said something about NOT putting a battery powered ANYTHING up to your face... much less in your mouth. All this so you can breathe stuff that will eventually make you sick or kill ya!! ????????

When we sell a custom light... the customer always gets a battery. A USED battery and they know it. I will not sell a brand new re-chargeable battery. Period. We charge them, use them...even if we just turn on a flashlight and let it lay on the bench.... the same with the customers light.... We build it, fire it up, turn it on, turn it off, go through the modes... and let it discharge a battery several times. That way, we KNOW we aren't handing someone a bomb. In the USA... we call it quality control. China should take a hint! TL.

That model doesn’t come with a battery but takes 18650. I wonder what battery he was using?

Besides that, the whole concept is stupid to me. Forget the actual vapor part of it, I wouldn’t put anything drawing that much power into my mouth.

Holding anything containing a Li-Ion cell just an inch away from your face while drawing a lot of amps is just asking for trouble.
Besides, instead of blaming countries, governments or regulations, we should take a hard look at ourselves and consider what is know as personal responsibility and awareness.
When I started out with Led lights and alter on modded lights, I made sure I was well informed. UP FRONT!

Can I cite a source? nope. Just something I remember reading around Christmas time. Something about some bad soldering coming loose and causing a dead short.

Can I cite a source? nope. Just something I remember reading around Christmas time. Something about some bad soldering coming loose and causing a dead short.

so basically if say they have modded these vapors and try and pull to many amps and the cell is unprotected that can cause a short also?

Selling e-Cigs and anything to do with them is illegal in Canada for anyone under 19. I just started researching Canadian E-Cig shops, as I’ve never seen one. I didn’t realize they were so prevalent. A whole bunch near me.
All the batteries sold in these shops seem to be Samsung,Sony, LG, AW and Efest. I didn’t see any Chinese cells. At least I now know where to find local supplies of high drain batteries.

I would think, for their own liability, most e-cig/vape shops would probably stay clear of questionable cells. But, a lot of people buy cells on eBay, as has been noted. They don’t know, and probably don’t even care why the cells are cheaper, just that they are. They probably think the vape shop is just pricing them too high.

Yea they are starting to regulate it here in Australia but as in the sense that it is the same as smoking so it will be banned soon…

In NSW, it is an offence to sell electronic cigarettes and accessories to minors or
for adults to purchase these products on behalf of minors and police have powers to seize electronic cigarettes from minors
There are also restrictions on vending machines used for selling electronic cigarettes and related offences
These laws came into effect on 1 September 2015 NSW
tobacco control laws on retail sale and display, advertising and promotion, and
smoking in motor vehicles with juveniles (under 16) present will apply to
electronic cigarettes from 1 December 2015

but yet free to sell dodgy chargers and batteries!

The people in the US will probably remember a few years back when that girl got a flesh eating disease after an injury from zip lining. She hurt her leg when falling into a pond. Almost every news source was freaking out about the dangers of zip lining when in truth it had nothing to do with her getting the infection, it was the dirty pond water.
This story reminds me of that. Ignorant people will blame the wrong things and call for banning something. Instead of looking at the dangers of li-ion cells, he wants to ban e-cigarettes. This kind of irrational and emotional action always bugs the heck out of me. Especially because it does nothing to help with the root cause of the kid’s injury. What would that guy say if his son’s cell phone exploded while talking on it? Ban all cell phones??

I think it should all be banned in the US. All e-something and vaping. It will prove out after all the testing, that is is worse on the lungs than smoking and I also truly believe all forms of Lithium batteries should have never been allowed in the US. It is the most toxic stuff for battery technology and the least stable of what it out there. I know, I know, but I still never carry lithium cells of any type and won’t. I stick with NiMH or Alkalines.

The tobacco companies probably consumer-tested the “safer” NiMH battery pack “e-Cigar” and found that children thought they looked stupid, not cool.

I’m not a smoker, so e-cigs do not appeal to me, but why do governments care to step in and ban things like e-cigs?

They seem to be less destructive to the body than real cigs, they irritate others lungs, they don’t smell bad………why ban them? Is it, “For the chilrenz?”

Here lately people seem to be suffering from a condition I like to call ban fever. They tend to loose sight of the fact that just because it’s illegal, doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

Banning e-cigs may slow the sales, but then people will either build their own or aquire them through the same avenues that allow drugs to be ever-present, regardless of legality.

I more than disagree!I call total BS!You at one time said you would never,ever use or build lights that took LiIon cells. Then you embraced them, and built+sold them.Now you say that they should be banned? You want to ban something that kills a lot of people, all over the world?Let’s ban cars! |(
