"It lit my kids face on fire" e-cig explosion

Even what I read was a news report, not what I’d call solid documentation anyways

Selling e-Cigs and anything to do with them is illegal in Canada for anyone under 19. I just started researching Canadian E-Cig shops, as I’ve never seen one. I didn’t realize they were so prevalent. A whole bunch near me.
All the batteries sold in these shops seem to be Samsung,Sony, LG, AW and Efest. I didn’t see any Chinese cells. At least I now know where to find local supplies of high drain batteries.

I would think, for their own liability, most e-cig/vape shops would probably stay clear of questionable cells. But, a lot of people buy cells on eBay, as has been noted. They don’t know, and probably don’t even care why the cells are cheaper, just that they are. They probably think the vape shop is just pricing them too high.

Yea they are starting to regulate it here in Australia but as in the sense that it is the same as smoking so it will be banned soon…

In NSW, it is an offence to sell electronic cigarettes and accessories to minors or
for adults to purchase these products on behalf of minors and police have powers to seize electronic cigarettes from minors
There are also restrictions on vending machines used for selling electronic cigarettes and related offences
These laws came into effect on 1 September 2015 NSW
tobacco control laws on retail sale and display, advertising and promotion, and
smoking in motor vehicles with juveniles (under 16) present will apply to
electronic cigarettes from 1 December 2015

but yet free to sell dodgy chargers and batteries!

What a retard is buying ecig for his kid? ROTFL

The people in the US will probably remember a few years back when that girl got a flesh eating disease after an injury from zip lining. She hurt her leg when falling into a pond. Almost every news source was freaking out about the dangers of zip lining when in truth it had nothing to do with her getting the infection, it was the dirty pond water.
This story reminds me of that. Ignorant people will blame the wrong things and call for banning something. Instead of looking at the dangers of li-ion cells, he wants to ban e-cigarettes. This kind of irrational and emotional action always bugs the heck out of me. Especially because it does nothing to help with the root cause of the kid’s injury. What would that guy say if his son’s cell phone exploded while talking on it? Ban all cell phones??

Canada has been looking into banning e-cigs completely, and I’m sure it has nothing to do with Li Ion batteries.

I disagree with everything you said.

The tobacco companies probably consumer-tested the “safer” NiMH battery pack “e-Cigar” and found that children thought they looked stupid, not cool.

I’m not a smoker, so e-cigs do not appeal to me, but why do governments care to step in and ban things like e-cigs?

They seem to be less destructive to the body than real cigs, they irritate others lungs, they don’t smell bad………why ban them? Is it, “For the chilrenz?”

Stupid.

“Greer said governments should not allow minors to buy such devices.

“I would like to see these unregulated ones possibly banned,” Greer said. “It is horrific to see your kid with his face so burnt.””

This type of hypocrite parent make me angry. If he’s a ‘kid’ what kind of parent would allow him to smoke. From what I see smoking age in Canada is 18 or 19 depending on the region. I agree, such devices should only be sold to individuals of legal age to smoke but this hypocrite has the nerve to blame someone else? He let his son possess and use it.

Here lately people seem to be suffering from a condition I like to call ban fever. They tend to loose sight of the fact that just because it’s illegal, doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

Banning e-cigs may slow the sales, but then people will either build their own or aquire them through the same avenues that allow drugs to be ever-present, regardless of legality.

I more than disagree!I call total BS!You at one time said you would never, ever use or build lights that took LiIon cells. Then you embraced them, and built+sold them. Now you say that they should be banned? You want to ban something that kills a lot of people, all over the world?Let’s ban cars! |(

The total quote did not come through, but anyone who has been here a while knows who I am referring to. I’m sure I’ll get flamed for this, but there are times I just won’t back down.

Let’s try to get along a little better. :ghost:

You know sb is not fond of rudeness, language or fighting.
Calmness and zen.

I’m sorry Halo. Hypocrisy just really sets me off.I’m done, have a good night. This is still the best forum around.

To BLF

Ask O-L what he’s going to put in his BOSS-1, 26650 Ni-Cad’s?

I only have one light that pulls over 20A from a single cell (21.1A), another that does over 17A. Scary feeling, bumping them up to Turbo. The Titanium host makes it a classy bomb and all the Trits will help find the parts if anything ever happens. (Pretty sure I should step it back down to a triple (Quad Ti X6) or at least put HI’s in it, those Nichia 219C’s draw way too much… hmmm, like that kid)

We have laws here against kids having smoking product, meaning cigarettes, tobacco, lighters, rolling papers. But I don’t know if they’ve added in the e-cigs. City ordinance is still law, although some scoff at it. When you think about it though, how much different is this from all those “good parents” that give their 16 yr old with his/her new license a Mustang or Camaro? “I know you just learned to drive, and I’m proud of you! Here’s a 400HP beast, have fun, be careful!” Duh!

After reading this i will tell you that that kid went over the board with his coil
Im 100% sure that he wraped his coil that were pulling more amps then that battery could deliver and there was a bumm
He was using unregulated mod which means ZERO protection
If you stupid and want to show off how big clouds you can blow and dont know the limits then you walk without teeth
Just my 2c

AW and Efest can be Chinese cells.

Generally I am against banning anything (With exceptions), but prefer informing people.
