Beam shot of X6 Al

Thanks Dale. I think I disabled it as it now seems to be running steadily in modes 3 and 4. Looks like something weird going on in there.

I'm guessing the same process (break at 7th stutter, then off at Medium) would toggle the thermal protection back ON again? I tried this but it seemed to make no difference. I can't push the light hard enough to heat up properly on the 3.2V LiFePo4 so I can't memorise a setting ATM.

Sorry to be a pain but do you have a link to the firmware instructions for this light. The diagram in the first post is helpful but lacks detail. I know it's probably buried somewhere among the nearly 5000 posts in this thread.

Cheers

It’s also in the first post, just look at the 1/22 date

Thanks myhken. Ok, so that is the same link I posted in #4983 which means I am looking at the correct instructions. (I mistook Dale's comment about it not being the same as the A6 to mean I was looking at the wrong file.)

This doesn't mention toggling thermal regulation on and off, only turning off or seting manually. If that's the case I guess I'll need to wait until I get some IMR cells to be able to turn it back on when the light gets hot?

The X5 is eating up battery power. Just played a little with it yesterday, set the thermal settings and today, I tested the thermal setting, and noticed that the lights was less brighter then yesterday from the start. Pulled the battery, and it was down to 3.3V
And that’s a protected Keeppower 840mAh. So it’s not using the full power of the light.

So not much runtime with the X5.

Not tested the X6 yet, but there I have 30Q, HG2, MJ1, GA batteries I can use.

My Keepowers are protected 800mAh - maybe 3 years old but with little use. I can't run turbo without tripping the protection. Yours must have a better circuit. Even so, you wouldn't expect "full power" on a protected cell. With such little capacity in a 14500 and this awesome driver, eating batteries will be inevitable in the higher modes.

It's a little gem of a light!

It can be that it run on full turbo, have to wait to get some IMR cells on their way before I know for sure.

Yep, the full sized FET driver on a small 700mAh cell gobbles it right up. (non protected high discharge cells in the 14500 class are ~650mAh)

When you are able to pull 5000mA (5 Amps), a 650mAh cell is being slammed!

But it sure is nice to have big flashlight output in a palm sized little beastie that fits in a pocket easily.

So, now imagine going up to 11.5A on that little cell with a Quad. I stepped outside night before last to go to the shop for a quick mod (put a tail clicky in a SupFire M6 for lockout) and was wearing my Nitecore HC50 Headlamp. The dog was acting like there was something he wanted to go after and the headlamp wasn’t showing me the far end of the yard (200’ deep) So I pulled out my little Cu X5 Quad and BAM! lit up the whole backyard ( I wear the Quad X5 in a horizontal open top Kydex holster on my belt, have had it with me ever since it came).
Bunny rabbit, stupid Yellow Lab was all excited about a lil ol bunny rabbit! As you might can imagine, that little Efest Purple 14500 isn’t going to do 3000 lumens for long, but it sure is nice to have it if/when you need it! And of course, this is what 7 levels is all about, battery level control.

My lights come in today so I’m leaving work early to meet them at the door!!

That is what I call dedication!

My wife would call it something different :stuck_out_tongue:

Andy? Do not look into the light! I know you will, but don’t say you weren’t warned…

Got my Al set today and they look pretty nice. I’ll have to get some better cells to push these lights to their max potential. The only issue I have is with a cracked lens on my X5. It’s only towards the edge, but I wonder if it will become a bigger issue, especially if it’s ever dropped. You can see the cracks extending past the edge of the reflector or O-ring, not sure which it is, as I don’t want to open it up and risk the cracks getting worse.

gadabout,

One of my Al X5 was doing the same or similar to yours. It corrected itself after doing a tear down, clean and lube job. Not sure of the cause, but happy it worked. There was some shavings around threads and loose around the internal components, but that is an observation, not a causal factor.

true flashaholic!

Thanks TK. Did a tear down, clean and lube. Everything tightened up nicely. Tailcaps switched and no change. I will contemplate getting a solder iron to investigate/troubleshoot more. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Received my first (boxed) SS/Cu set.

Outer packaging was beat and ripped open, but the foam and cardboard box were OK. Inside, the wooden box and lights looked fine. They shifted inside some but could not find any blems.

I have matching serials # 69 (hurr hurr…)

They work great. Love the UI! Tint is not as warm as I would prefer but I wouldn’t call it cool. It’s truly neutral. Not bad at all.

Thanks again to all that made this happen!

I just wanted to say Thanks to all the members at BLF Krono, Bugsy, PilotDog, TK and on and on, just another wonderful project and certainly a HUGE success, Thank You Everyone Involved in this project…!!

Edit: Just got through setting up UI and this light is just spectacular #6 fixed some issues I was personally having, so edited out my stupid comments, sorry…
I love the voltage check, extremely easy to understand, I wasn’t prepared for the 9/10Ths blink and thought I’d broke something, try to count that, it’s fast for me,
Also nice touch with the 1/8th or so back off on the switch to turn off pilotdogs lighted tail cap, fantastic.
Edit: Delete…
I have actually realized that I do have favorite lights based on the switch action,

Thanks everyone who worked so hard, this is one beautiful light.

Edit: Just finished with programing X5&X6 and“TK”* you did not miss a thing, some of my issues previously mentioned above (deleted) are resolved at many levels, I thought I’d read this UI instructions many times but apparently I really wasn’t getting it until now with light in hand, UI is just Fantastic, Thanks…!*

 I know exactly what you mean! Although, I must say my wife was very impressed with these new lights and that is quite an accomplishment considering her feelings towards what she calls my “new obsession”.

Okay I left work early only to get home 30 minutes too late I missed my lights by 30 minutes. Now I’m hunting down our mail lady, she is suppose to meet me at the post office at 3:00 to give me my lights hopefully!

Aint’ that the way of it! If you’re a bit behind, they’re early. If you’re early, they’re hours late. I’ve even watched tracking and knew the package was on the truck for delivery, was walking down to the mailbox when a sub drove up, stuffed a notice in the box, and drove away. He was 200 yds down the road at the next mailbox and I was out in the street trying to flag him down. Bass* drove away with my stuff! I called the Post Office and talked to the manager and threw a tissy fit. lol

That “Sorry we missed you” stuff, when they don’t even try, really gets me riled. lol

Also had a $400 Titanium light coming with signature required labeling. Happened to be standing outside talking to a neighbor when I saw the mail carrier coming down the road…another sub stuck that expensive package in the big rural mailbox 300 yds down the lane and drove off while I watched. I honestly don’t know where they find these guys….

Good luck! 3:00 draws nigh…
