[07-MAR-2016] Current status of BLF upgrade process

Thanks! I’ll remind you in a few days. Or whenever you report most other forum functions have been restored / recreated.

I’m not sure how I feel about the “Track” feature. can that be disabled?

Track?
This? http://budgetlightforum.com/user/8113/track
Not quite clear on what it’s suppose to do or if it’s working right. But we did have the ability to check a users posts and threads before.

To me it appears to track what threads a user has viewed not just what was posted

Great job on the upgrade

Still feels like the old BLF, but a bit more modern and with the addition of some better functions.

Well, I can’t see much need for that. And I’d agree with you, I don’t like the idea either.

Still not mobile friendly

I’m liking the new look.

Nice new look!!!

It seems it can be made mobile friendly Mobile-first Indexing Best Practices | Google Search Central  |  Documentation  |  Google for Developers
Google also says it’s not mobile friendly 概要  |  Lighthouse  |  Chrome for Developers
Tapatalk support seems dead in the water.

Also agreed. Thanks a lot for catching this. I had enabled it so that users can get lists of their previous posts, but I didn’t realize that it enabled everyone to see where everyone else was going on the site. It’s disabled now.

Thanks SB!

How much sleep have you had lately sb apart from not enough?

It’s been quite a run, I must admit. The thing is, when I have a major project like this on top of me I prefer to just concentrate and get it done before I lose track of the million-and-one odds and ends that come into play. Plus I didn’t want to get it set up and then go to bed for 8 hours, because I still wasn’t sure if I got the configuration right, and I didn’t want the site to go belly-up while I’m sleeping and leave everyone stranded again.

I’m using it from my phone right now. It works great. The style is pretty much the same on my phone, desktop, and even Dillo. If this is what “not mobile friendly” means, I hope BLF will inspire other sites to follow.

Oh and by the way, does it still work with your minimal Dillo browser?

BTW, there is a nice new feature nobody mentioned yet. It is now possible to link directly to individual comments. I haven’t checked whether it works regardless of posts-per-page settings, but the URL style used suggests that it should.

The down side is that the new 50-posts-per-page default means all my bookmarks will need to be rewritten before they’ll work again. That’s not so hard though, and the new URL scheme should prevent any future issues.

At the risk of sounding like a suck up, thanks for all the hard work SB. Appreciate all the behind-the-scene work as well as the up-front-and-personal action. Grats on the improvements and getting the forum back up and running.

Yes, it looks better than ever.

(I gave it a more thorough test just now, and it both looks better and works better than before… almost as nicely as in a full browser)
