*3/13 Update the Review is in!* G700 "Chip In Fund"

2/12 Update
I spoke to Richard at Mountain Electronics, and he graciously offered a $10 gift voucher to his shop  2 members on here offered up their G700’s for the review, but decided to go with Slim Pickens since he had the entire kit that is sold on Limitact’s website (flashlight, batteries, charger, case).

I’m going to send out a message with my Paypal to everyone who signed up to donate to the cause. I’ll to be the middle man for the $$$, so it gets sent to mhanlen and Slim Pickens for shipping. Any extra will go to the guy’s for their work on this. In order to alleviate any questions as to what the donations are going towards, I’m going to update this thread with a breakdown of expenses, so every penny will be accounted for.

Thank you guys for seeing this through, I’m pretty excited to see the final review!

Payment will be done within the hour.

I really hope there are a lot of people who are
1 willing to make a review of the G700 and Meco
2 willing to send it to the next who is on par with 1 and 2

If we flood the web with reviews and new ones to incorporate the new names it could be a fun project.
H#ck I just came up with a nice addition to 1 and 2
3 puts 1 or 2 flashlight related things extra in the package and takes 1 or 2 out to keep.

The great BLF G700 review and goodies box on its travel around the world project!

Just a heads up, when you guys do the review may want to also include BRIGHTMAX 3000. This is the new name this light is being sold under.

Lets debunk some junk!!!

And a shameless bump…

I seen that same plastic box it comes in here sold at Dollarama for $1.

so yeah, I’m in for $5 if we’re buying Slim Pickens light

I’ll add $5 toward this, send me the info.

Jason, unfortunately we are not able to buy Slim Pickens light, unless he is wanting to sell it for a lot cheaper than he paid for it. We just didn’t raise enough money to buy a “community light,” which I’m now thinking is for the best. Instead, we’re just trying to cover the shipping costs, and use whatever is left over, as a gift card to Mountain Electronics for mhanlen and Slim Pickens.

Hank, I think we have enough funds to cover the shipping all ways, and still pull off a $10 gift card for both guys. I greatly appreciate the offer, and may call on you next week, once we determine exact shipping costs. I’m hoping that the donations we have already will cover everything

SlimP, would you be willing to share your “full kit” with reviewers, and then take it back if you think it’s worth a lot of money?

I know people feel like “the more you paid the more it’s worth” — but it’s not worth much, really.
Except as a horrible example to share.

I’d offer Slim a S2+ as a gift direct-ordered from RMM, if he’d let his “more expensive” light kit be passed around for reviews for a while.

NICE hank!

Hank, that is a heck of an offer…

Slim, You would be getting a free light in addition to yours for just loaning it out…

Let me assume that extra views and subscriptions are a reward in itself for the reviewer
The one giving up the crappy G700 gets a really nice S2+
all that is left is shipping, and with al the name changes a new review should be posted regularly to have any effect.
WHO is willing to make a review AND wants to pay for shipping to the rest?
I am, but live in France so to pass the set around USA seems logical before it shippes to Europe.

Thanks for your offer, Hank! That’s extremely generous. But seeing a nice review or two is enough for me  The light and kit is on its way to mhanlen.

Editor wasn’t properly showing the shunken image.

I am so interested in seeing this review. I have the meco light with an xml t6, it was my first zoomie and first aspheric, and as such I was pretty impressed by the amount of light, the smoothness of the flood, and the tightness and throw of the zoom. It put out a decent amount of light I estimate between 600 and 800 lumens. The UI and switch were flaky and the light is clearly cheaply made, but no so cheaply to impede it's most basic job. Most people I showed it to were fairly impressed and wanted one. But keep in mind I only paid around $7 for it, not $59 or whatever the crappytac lights go for. If that $59 gets these buyers the light 2 batteries a charger, and they have only used common incandescent flashlights, I think there can be enough implied value and reasonable light output, that buyers are generally satisfied. I actually bought another meco light for someone else, along with 2 good cells and a 2 bay charger, and it came to between $25 and $30, which is about the minimum one could spend on these 3 items. From that perspective, crappytak is just doubling the price, which is less egregious than the $6.99 to $59.99 markup we think when we see the ad. Definitely not taking up for these sellers, and maybe my commentary is irrelevant to anything here since I have the meco not the other one. Just happy with mine for the price paid. Not as pretty as my Zeusray but equal in usefulness and output. Braided the springs upgraded the wires in both and run them on LG HE2's. For cheap lights, they provide cheap light.

Yes I got one that looks the same as the G700 but says ultra fire on the side. With LatticeBright led and still it outshines all the flashlights I can buy at the hardware stores here. For the $5 these sell indeed impressive and it fits 26650, 18650 and 3xAAA cells with provided sleeve and AAA holder.
Point is they are worth 5 and general public must know this so if they want to spend $56 they buy something that is actually worth that.

To make a long story short, friend asked about G700 $55, told him it was junk and worth $7. Asked me about AA lights, didn’t want to use lithium ion, figured out the best AA lights for him and sent lots of links. He calls yesterday and says he bought a Leopard(same as G700), told me USA made and got it for $30, LOL. He also bought lights from Lowe’s and WalMart. Some people just don’t listen, I give up.

I can’t wait to get into this review! I’ll update here when I get the light. Should take me a few weeks to finish it… just because of my current workload.

I did not fully follow the discussion (sorry), will you be having the G700 and also the $5 version for a side-by-side comparison?

That is my understanding. I wasn’t following the thread that close either, but I was contacted to do a review and side by side comparison. Which I will happily oblige. My analytics on my YouTube channel suggest that a lot of people are searching for G700. So this should get a ton of traffic.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. I tried to ship out the G700 clone Monday, but realized after walking in, that the post office was closed for President’s Day. All last week I was in my yearly recurrent training for the Lear, so I’ve had zero time to run to the post office during regular business hours.

Slim Pickens’ original G700 was received by mhanlen, and the clone G700 is on its way to him as well. We WILL be doing a side-by-side comparison  I looked at the shipping costs, and the cheapest way to get the clone from me to mhanlen, would be a flat rate shipping box. It would cost about $6.50 each way, so $13 total to get it to him, and then back to me. I took a look at Banggood, and they have the same light in stock at their US warehouse for only $6.99 with free shipping. So I took the liberty to order the light, and have it shipped for free to mhanlen (which he can keep, or ship around with Slim’s G700 to whoever else wants to do a review). I figured this would be more reasonable than spending $13 to ship a $6.99 light back and forth. And it will save $$$ to give to Slim Pickens, and mhanlen.
