I went to go look, and I noticed something else. The location field seems to have gone empty in the past day or so. It used to be āPersonal Information -> Locationā with a value in it, and now itās āGeneral -> Locationā and empty. I restored the old value, but ā¦ did everyone just lose their location data?
By chance, I took a screenshot of that yesterday. It looked like this:
Itās not lost, I just have it disabled for now. They are deprecating the old user Profile module in favor of Profile2, and in their typical clumsiness they provide no upgrade path. I do need Profile2 for the Subscriptions system functionality, so I installed the new one and disabled the old one. But if everyone strongly prefers, I can keep digging for a way to migrate the location data. My preference would be for everyone to fill it in again. But you guys/gals decide.
Sorry for all the hassles. Did I mention that the Drupal upgrade process is terrible, horrible, no good, and very bad?
No worries. Itād be ideal to migrate the data but, if not, I doubt it matters much. I understand that Drupal upgrades are rather unpleasantly like trying to pass a kidney stone.
Iām sure that we can all type our locations in again - although some loss might be encountered with defunct or unmotivated users who will never set their location again.
My vote is to save your energy for some more critical aspect of this transition.
The joys of being the boss. You doing a terrific job sb with the minimal disruption to the forum but massive interruption with your normal sleep pattern.
Iād like to see the location of members back and mouseovers but there is no hurry at all. Take your time and as RMM said, well said something like, no hassle.
Hi again SB. I see youāve been busy. I didnāt get to look at this much over the weekend. Sounds like a royal pain for you. I just wanted to confirm where we are in the user location thing. At this point do we just have to manually repopulate our location? I can live with that, I just want to know what youād like us to do at this point. If that is the final solution maybe you could send out a mass request for users to update their location. I noticed yesterday that at this time there is no way at all to see a user location. Clicking on the user name no longer lists their location.
Sorry If Iām asking something thatās already ben answeredā¦ :-/
Thanks for bring our old emoticons back.
Love the changes so far, but I am not able to find the button that once existed under My Account that would list all of my postsā¦ where is that located now???
Would it be possible to get the little arrow next to the right hand window slider that would take you to the top of the page in one click? Ebay uses it and I think it would be very handy.
Location: Save your energy for something else. I just updated mine in a few seconds. Maybe post a message that everybody could help make your life easier and allow you to spend your timeon more important things by updating their own profile.
Sorry to hear that Drupal does not think of its users when they produce upgrades.
This is another area where Iād love to see some mobile awareness. For mobile users (phones, tablets) it can be very difficult or impossible to āmouseoverā. When thatās the only source for the mouseover image it becomes a roadblock.
Iām not sure how the previous mouseover insertion process previously worked. If the new process worked in such a way that it could be themed or otherwise compatible with a Drupal āmobile detectā type module that would seem to be ideal.
FWIW as long as there isnāt a link embedded in the mouseover image, I can just tap it on my phone to simulate a mouseover, and tap outside the image to āremoveā the cursor.
ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦ā¦
SB, would it be possible to get back the āquoteā option for the OP in a thread?
I posted the MouseOver code earlier. I keep that in a .txt file & just bring it out whenever I need it. Works. I was hoping someone would tip in some other parametersā¦
Actually I can probably add another button to the Simple Post Editor, itās relatively straightforward. Iāll add it to the list, just not a priority right now.
Ah, good point. Iām not sure what I was thinking of - maybe Iāve had trouble with mouseovers which did include a link, or maybe some particular device Iāve used in the past gave me trouble. Maybe I made it up. Who knows?
As far as the OP quoting issue, itās known - see post #270 in this thread.
Unfortunately no, it looks like that feature is broken. :-/ The workaround is to copy/paste text into your post, select the text, and then click the ā button (next to the smileys) to put QUOTE tags around it.
@wight: I wonder how long itāll be before Apple or Samsung comes out with proximity screen touches where it starts reacting with just a finger hovering over the screen, kind of like with a Wacom drawing tablet?
I bet Appleās āforce touchā stuff could be leveraged in much the same way ā light touch replicates a mouseover, heavy touch replicates a click. Thatās probably not something a webmaster can implement though. Sounds like a feature of the browser instead.
