Would be neat to know exactly what he did with that battery pack. If he were a good friend, he’d fill it up with 18 new 3500mAH cells. The original cells were only 2300mAH rated. That would give his friend over 4 1/2 times the original capacity for a tiny fraction of the OEM price!

Edit: Just went to youtube and looked at the comments. Some smarty pants saying the price was most likely a reflection of actual cost. But, anyway, I learned that this guy order six new replacement cells. He isn’t even planning on upgrading the capacity at all, apparently. :-((

Oh, that’s nothing… Recently I was in pursuit for a new battery pack (ordinary dumb pack without any electronics consisting of six Panasonic HHR380A batteries in series) for a certain lab. device and price estimate from equipment manufacturer was around 900$ !!!

Each battery is around 10$/pcs. bought locally…

He is talking about temperature sensors, but the wires inside the battery pack are for the balancing circuit.
He should not replace only the two cells in the middle, because that would cause more unbalance, he needs to replace all 6 cells.

Last year i have replaced lithium-ion cells in a very expensive battery pack (used in a professional color calibration tool), a new battery pack was about 400 dollar, i used 2 Panasonic 3400mAh 18650 cells to repair the pack.
With those Panasonic cells the battery pack has a higher capacity than an Original 400 dollar battery pack.
There were 3 cells in the pack, but because the diameter of the Original cells was slightly less than the Panasonics, i could not get 3 Panasonics in there.
The cells were in parallel, Original it was 6000mAh 3,7V, now it is 6800mAh 3,7V (4,2V fully charged) with only 2 cells.

I have payed about 5 euro per cell (Panasonic with solder tags), the battery pack was repaired for 1/40 of the cost of an Original battery pack :open_mouth: .


You can get 17650 or 16650 cells if you ever need to do a pack like that again. I believe the sanyo UR16650ZTA does 2000mAh from 4.2-3v @2a. They should give a nice long life since they are designed for 4.35v. Sure that only gives you a 6000mAh pack but panasonic 3400s can't give the full 3400mAh unless the device is designed to use the pack down to 2.5v. More like 3200 for 4.2-3v @500mA.
