*3/13 Update the Review is in!* G700 "Chip In Fund"

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. I tried to ship out the G700 clone Monday, but realized after walking in, that the post office was closed for President’s Day. All last week I was in my yearly recurrent training for the Lear, so I’ve had zero time to run to the post office during regular business hours.

Slim Pickens’ original G700 was received by mhanlen, and the clone G700 is on its way to him as well. We WILL be doing a side-by-side comparison  I looked at the shipping costs, and the cheapest way to get the clone from me to mhanlen, would be a flat rate shipping box. It would cost about $6.50 each way, so $13 total to get it to him, and then back to me. I took a look at Banggood, and they have the same light in stock at their US warehouse for only $6.99 with free shipping. So I took the liberty to order the light, and have it shipped for free to mhanlen (which he can keep, or ship around with Slim’s G700 to whoever else wants to do a review). I figured this would be more reasonable than spending $13 to ship a $6.99 light back and forth. And it will save $$$ to give to Slim Pickens, and mhanlen.

Updated the second post with a makeshift expense report.

Can’t wait for the review
Are there others who will do the comparison as well?

Unknown at this point. My coordination efforts are only for mhanlen’s review. If you want to talk to Slim about it, then that’s up to you guys. I’d love to see some more reviews, but I don’t have the tools for a proper review, so I’m going to bow out of that one.

The MECO light that I sent to mhanlen is his to keep (if he decides to keep it). So if he wants to ship it with the G700, then that’s 100% his decision. I’d contact those two guys, or start a thread to gauge the interest in doing more reviews on it.

I’ll let you quarterback that one, Miller

yes! will do!

Hey fellows… I have both lights in my hand and plan on doing a review in the coming weeks. It should take me about 2 weeks give or take a few days- because I’m finishing up a few Nitecore things. I really don’t need either light- I’m doing this for fun really. I really don’t care where it goes next. I plan on shipping the G700 or both lights back to slim. He can decide what happens to it next, and where I ship it to.

Cheers to Slim for furthering this, and I hope he can decide, and tell you, who to send it to next — keep those reviews rolling out, so he doesn’t have to keep paying shipping for each new reviewer. Send it around

I think we need to send it to mhanlen for a tongue and cheek review.

Yes that is in the making.
Who in the US wants to go next?

I found this page interesting… its a directory listing of all of the infomercials they do for different markets…

Sorry I haven’t read all the the posts here, but it’s too bad that the G700 isn’t being compared to the Ultrafire E17 Simon is selling. That one is much more likely to have a real Cree XM-L. The Meco has a LatticeBright LED, so it’ll make the G700 look better than it really is.

kowshak, good find, th is makes it easer to track the names they are using, thanks.

tristan, you could be right, if we had only thought of this a little earlier in the process, the price is about the same so this would have been a better choice if the eco used has indeed LB in it.

If this is true, it could throw a little wrench into our plans. I sent a message to mhanlen about taking a look at the mcpcb, to see if it says LatticeBright or LB on it. Banggood lists it as a XML T6. So we will see.

EDIT: Mhanlen confirmed that the G700 IS a LatticeBright emitter, so hopefully the MECO is as well. He is going to double check.

Crisis averted :face_with_monocle:

Good grief. I hadn’t actually seen any of the crap ads for this piece of garbage, until I looked at the ones collected at the link above.
“How to stop a bear dead in its tracks” illustrated with picture of snarling Grizzly bear

It reminds me of a joke worth, er, improving.

How do you tell the species of bear from the bear poo in the woods?

Contains berries and vegetation: Black bear
Contains little bells and fragments of “700-type” flashlights and smells like pepper spray: Grizzly bear.

I’m afraid the real problem here is these “700” flashlight ads are pitched to convince illiterates, people who can’t or don’t read to find information.

Author Spider Robinson pointed out back in 1999, in a piece titled “Seduction of the Ignorant”

Keep making those video reviews, and remember — half the viewers are below average. Poor suckers are being ripped off totally.

Looking at the emitters close… the G700 definitely has a Latticebrite and the Meco looks to have the same. So it will be a fair comparison.

Sorry, I wish I had read this thread before the Meco light was ordered. The reason I know it is a LatticeBright is because I bought one awhile ago from Banggood and it was confirmed to be a LatticeBright on the “Fake Cree LED” thread.

Oh boy…… here is the latest flashlight “de jeur”. It is an X800 so we can be confident it is much better than the G700 model https://www.shadowhawkflashlights.com/ss1/index.php?AFID=12&SID=YH

Wow. They must hire those guys who write spam email to do their fake website reviews. “Sponsored by” indeed:

What did they change? Oh, the number “7” has been replaced by the number “8” in the white paint on the outside.
That’s, what, a 12.4 percent improvement in brightness?

While I’m sure the G800 is equally unimpressive as the G700, the G800 is a clone of the Ultrafire E26 which can take a 26650. The G700 is a clone of the Ultrafire E17 and is a 18650 light.

While many feel the build is better on the E26 (which I agree) the switch design is not a good as the E17. The omten 1217 switch will drop right in the E17.

Just to update everyone… I am working on this, although I’ve been a bit busy. This will be by next review, and I should be done with it early sometime next week. Sorry it’s taken a little longer than I’ve expected… but I’ve written the script for it and tested that crap battery that has come with it… It tests at 1600 mah and only wants to charge to 4.08v.
