Does anyone have a Xiaomi USB LED light?

If anyone is interested I measured the Tint and the output from two of these handy little lamps (org. Xiaomi, one blue and one red).

They measured very close to each other although I could see a slight difference in tint.

The blue one: xc,yc= (0.414 , 0.422) = 3514K , 82 lm

The red one: xc,yc= (0.414 , 0.419) = 3498K , 78 lm

The color point corresponds to a bit greener than BIN 6B3, one could call it 6S, if this was defined in the BIN chart.

I intent to experiment with adding some red paper or a rosa filter underneath the diffuser to get rid of some of the green, but it is usable as is.

Beware, there are (unknown) tolerances on these measurements although I am more confident with the color measurements than the lumen measurements (Used instruments: Color Analyzer and Integrating Sphere).

is it just me or I can’t differentiate the quality of real and fakes?

I know I got a fake one with less components (as I only see couple of resistors and brown square blocks which i assume capacitors? I see no 3 legged components)
but it seems like the fakes I got has a brighter output and draws less amps compared to the real deal. (about 0.15A)

They both get warm after 20 minutes of use though

Nevertheless they are very cheap for something so bright

The genuine one are often heavily discounted so no need to buy fakes for that reason. If you have the genuine light you can turn it on and off with the “power button” on Xiomi Power banks. That feature also applies to the Xiaomi USB propeller(fan). I just wish there was a easy way to adjust the brightness

I got several of those, they are good quality ones EXEPT for the emitters, they all do have a terrible CRI- under 50: and i am talkinf of original MI ones ( bought from Bangood)….the emitter can be easy swapped with a quality 3014 or 2835 one, dont swap it with 3528 ot 5050- those dont have a coooling pad underneath, any 3014 or even 5630-5730( swapping here will be tricky) will do, Samsung has very good cri 80+ emitters out there- they costs cents too

FWIW—I live in SoCal ( Costa Mesa, Ca)
and my local “99 cents only” store has these
USB lights in stock now—for 99 cents!
Not sure if they are Xiaomi-but they have
them in white, black, pink & purple.
Its brighter than I thought it would be

Surely not Xiaomi, more likely to be this: m.aliexpress.com/item/32584076179.html

But still a very nice price

and Xiaomi has this too, on/off switch and output adjust.

[Edited: Added memory and current draw]

I have one of those new ones. It is very nice and with 10 LEDs (old one 6).

The greenish tint is gone and it cycles through 5 levels (with a push button) with memory:

(OFF) - 0.5 - 8.1 - 39 - 107 - 169 lumen (against the old ones 87 lumen) measured in my integrating sphere (a little difficult with the long head, so I put it partly into the sphere). The color temperature was 3700K (The old one 3560K).

Current draw was 0.09 - 0.11 - 0.18 - 0.24 - 0.46 A

Now the price needs to come down.

Nice information!
Seems like I need 2 of those :stuck_out_tongue:

I have one old Xiaomi and one fake light. Both are well made but the light colour of the xiaomi was never the best.
I will give it a try.

I love Xiaomi so much
Smartphone, Controller, 3 Powerbanks, lights, InEars - all made very good and cheap.

Are you sure about this? As it would make it terribly inefficient in the low settings.

You might forgot to watch the scale.

I have the xiaomi light and fan. They are fine - some extra garbage to sit in the drawer and never get used.

You are right, it is inefficient at low level.

I’m extremely satisfied with Xiaomi usb fan.
I used it last summer for 3 whole days of nonstop working without any problems-my laptop fan died and I took off the
bottom cover of laptop and used the Xiaomi to cool it down while waiting for the replacement fan to arrive.

That’s a bummer. In that case I’ll pass and stick with the classic - powered with just 2 half depleted primary cells, it makes nice dining lamp, and lasts for days.

I am verry satisfied with this lamp. Nice tint, no PWM and on the 2th level bright enough to light my keybord. In connection with the windows software f.lux I could get rid of all blueish light of my notebook.

Video showing the different level outputs… not HD video but… it helps to see (more or less) how it “shines” at the different outputs… (I think the lowest one is useless unless you want it for preverving night vision…)

If the info is correct… the 4th mode draws the same current than the old one…

Interesting

The first mode is useful for reading a book, laying on your back. Lay the power bank on your belly, the head of the lamp right under your nose.

Saw someone who made a decoration lamp of one of those usb chargers with five
or six outlets filled with these xiaomi lights.

Use one in the usb outlet on the back of my TV. Got the idea here: BGR | Tech & Entertainment News, Reviews, Deals & How-Tos

My wife saw I purchased one, tried it out and loved it. She ended up with it and uses it all the time with her portable power bank.
