My red flashlight

Similar to my yellow flashlight post i have no idea what kind of flashlight this is. It is very attractive though and reminds me of camping in my youth. It was given to me as a birthday present last year. As you can see it is in very good shape and works well.

I had the dickens of a time wedging the batteries into the case. It is VERY snug.

Beam from about 6ft away casting a rough circle of about 10”

Those are some interesting lights you are posting.

And welcome to BLF!

That’s a sweet light, reminds me of my youth as well.

LED mod coming up? Because this baby looks like it can trounce the Coke Can Blasters in output with an LED source.

That sure is a beauty. Thanks for sharing.

Apparently it’s a Big Beam Model 266. … and apparently those take a PAR36 lamp? (eg the whole reflector / hotwire assembly comes out together)

That would be SUPER tempting for a mod. LED, incan, whatever…. anything to surprise some folks.

If it were non-working I would be up for a mod but since it is in perfect working order I’m going to keep it like that. It’s not a light I plan to use but more to look at on the shelf.

My dad had one that was very similar and it took a single 12V lead acid battery, maybe that’s why you had trouble installing 2 @6V?

Dad has one that takes 12 volt batteries

But his has wire leads that attach to the posts on the inside.

Don’t see those very often. Thanks for posting!

That’s freaking cool! I agree that because it works it should stay original. If you find a broken one, make a space ray out of it!

As long as you don’t alter it to where it can’t be easily returned to original, I see no harm in modding old collectable lights. With anything I ask that folks remember that once lost, history cannot be restored; but it is their decision- not mine- to make.

I love these big old lights- they were the super-star performers of their day and while that no longer holds true it does not diminish my feelings for them. One of my thoughts is to take a common less collectable flexible-head one and to mod it into a ‘super cockroach’ with extreme runtime but with very good output too. There’s certainly enough size to allow that and it would be fun to use such a ‘conversation starter’ out in the real world where the light would be noticed whether off or on.
