Fake NITECORE Chargers [2016]

I think the problem,as Wight points out, Nitecore are possibly not describing their products correctly and if you contact them to clarify, they don’t reply. So I understand The millers point.

My D2 is fake according to the magnet test, 240v input socket, verification number doesn’t exist and it won’t charge AAA eneloops without taking them to 1.59v. But when I emailed Nitecore, 3 times, I didn’t get one reply.

I now avoid Nitecore products.

I just received 8 Nitecore UM10 chargers ( for gifting ) and found the negative slide contact instantly grabs a magnet, while the positive contact does not. I have done some researching to learn if “all” Nitecore chargers use non-magnetic metals, without any success so far. I was going to contact Nitecore until reading a members post mentioning Nitecore did not reply to his correspondence, so I hope to save time and learn the answer here. If they are fake I of course need to contact the shipper right away, and also update you who the supplier is.

Thank you

I got a (really good) fake i4 from EdisonBright on amazon, but that was about 2 years ago so no refunds, and the packaging is long gone.

It fails the magnet test and there aren’t any nitecore caps.

Edit: 3/3/16, since I’m officially in the OP reporting a fake, I thought it would be a good idea to say that the purchase date from EdisonBright was 11/11/13. I believe this to be one of the earliest fakes to be reported.

Freeme,

Thanks for the illustrations!

Your post prompted me to check my charger. Fortunately, it passed all the visual and magnetic tests.

Here is a link to answer the magnet question for “all” Nitecore chargers.

I just received Fake UM10’s. What would be the best solution to resolve this, viewing it as a BLF member and satisfied Banggood customer? Is there a BLF member that is also with BG?

I took mine apart all of my parts are labeled with Nitecore on them but i did buy mine in 2014

My D4 has internal parts labelled Nitecore & my positive contacts are non magnetic (as Nitecore say they should be), however my negative contacts/rails are magnetic which Nitecore state shows a fake ?
My unit also passed its authentication code test so I believe it to be genuine even though my negative contacts/rails are the complete opposite of what Nitecore state they should be.
I do not think that their magnet test advice is 100% correct.

My D2 fails the magnet test, the verification test has a 240v figure 8 like freemes fake. And it HAS killed 6 AAA cells. 2 eneloop, 2 energiser, 1 Panasonic and a Recyko. In all cases it has taken them to 1.59 volts. The fist couple of times I did not realise what it had done until I saw 1.59v on screen.

We may not have seen anyone house burn down yet and it is unlikely but, if I pay for a real item I expect a real item otherwise people would not be complaining about fake Cree LEDs.

  • If there are “fakes” that work the same, what is the problem ? We don’t know that they work the same.
  • And where did they come from? The manufacturer’s location is unknown.
  • Same factory, same parts? We don’t know about the factory. Definitely not the same parts.
  • Now, if someone has had a bad experience with a shoddy “not Nitecore” charger that has burned down their house, or killed their batteries, I don’t think I have heard about it. Somehow, that thought isn’t very reassuring. :weary:
  • Nitecore don’t seem to be interested in following up “fake” allegations. I think they are interested in following up on fakes. [Reference Link]
  • I suspect it is FUD. I suspect that it is a genuine concern. People deserve to get the bona fide product that they paid good money for.
  • They are not expensive. Does the low purchase price in any way change the fact that the buyer didn’t get a genuine product?
  • Why bother to clone and cheat? I think they clone and cheat to make more money than they otherwise would if sold under their own brand.
  • The design is good, and the cost of parts add up to a decent amount. I’m not aware of any testing of fakes to ascertain whether their design is factually good.
  • Show me a fake with rubbish inside and I would worry. Hmmm… I don’t have an anwer to that one. O:-)

Awww… you don’t need no pic’s to mock, you’re doin’ jes fine!

Please look at the icons (Right) that I have indicated again. Negative contact plates of an authentic charger do attract magnet. I have confirmed it with D4, D2, i4 and i2 so far.

Thank you. I see 3 points-of-contact. Only the positive is not magnetic on mine. Both negative points are magnetic.

What result did you get from the validation codes? I have not heard of any fake um series yet.

No code testing. Magnet is enough for me at this point. I’m having to spend more time with this than I really should be considering other life’s immediate needs. No disrespect meant and I appreciate your help. For some reason everything seems to hit at once when we are already too busy, so further checking doesn’t seem to be immediately required but I see your point. I can check a couple codes asap and post. Thanks again.

Well my legit died after a few times used. Screen did not display info so could not trust it.

Please buy my Olight intimidator, for just $20. You’ll receive an Ultrafire zoomie with “Olight Intimidator” written on it with a silver sharpie and a cough 5600mAh Ultrafire cell installed (on that I will write Olight as well no worries ;))
You must like that a lot! Getting what you pay for :stuck_out_tongue:

I will avoid Nitecore since I found their own specs to be untrue on a genuine one.
Reading they do not show interest in these matters when it comes to fakes makes this decision seem more legit.

I’m starting to think like you are Miller, Nitecores validation site is not accessible for some reason. Either I have a virus or it is not available for some reason.

Maybe someone else can give it a try.

So what do you reckon my D4 is freeme, real or fake ?
My positive contacts do not attract a magnet but negative contacts & slider rails do ?
It passed the authentication code test & upon opening up the charger the components are labelled Nitecore ?
I can”t see it being anything but real due to passing the authentication code & having internal components labelled Nitecore but if that is the case how come my negative contacts & slider rails attract a magnet when Nitecore state that genuine chargers do not ?

G'Day BLF'ers,

As posted by me in Marcl's misleadingly labelled thread "Banggood selling fake Nitecore charger? confirmed by Nitecore's website, if it's working" :

I have a few Nitecore D4 chargers sourced from Nitecore themselves, some of which fail their own tests for verifying if genuine or not.

When I spoke to my Nitecore contact about this, he said that they still had old stock of chargers & parts to clear/use up.

So many chargers would fail Or partially fail their new "promulgated" verification tests.

Best Regards,

George

I can’t speak for anyone else, but if I’m buying a knock-off, I want to know that it’s a knock-off. Give it a humorous name (Nortcore, Nitecar, Won Hung Lo, etc.) and shove it off the back of a truck in Shenzen market for all I care, just don’t lie to me about it being authentic.
