Future batteries, coming soon: charge in seconds, last months and power over the air

Yeah, and the article says that these batteries should be “ready to go by mid way through 2016”.

I wonder if they forgot a “0” at the end of that date?

More like they put in a 1 instead of a 0 and placed it in the spot where the 6 should’ve gone.

Here we go again… :^/

Air powered? Water powered? FUEL CELLS??? We can’t (“legally”) own H2O2 in any useful concentration, so how can we be trusted with Fuel Cells? And how far will we have to drive to get a fresh load of Hydrogen for them?

So where’s my “Mr. Fusion”??

“Sodium Ion”?? Hey, wait! We haven’t tried all the metals bound into ions yet! How about “Gold Ion” for the wealthy 1%? Or Brass Ion for the rest of us? Wait! I know! Iron Ion!! Because “Iron — Cold Iron — is the Master of them All.”

Now that we can see the truth about ruling-class-sponsored “wind power” and solar, what ever happened to “zero-point energy” and the power of the spheres? How about we all just wear Nylon socks & shuffle our way to “energy independence”? Maybe string a wire into space or get unlimited power from the difference in Ground Potential across your front yard?

Tesla figured out how to transmit electricity without wires, but that’s just so too tres Century-Before-Last.

How about put the Rotor on your arm and the Stator on your chest & make your own power walking around? (Bury a magnet in your Belt Cancer & your Apple Watch won’t need a battery!) No, that would require effort on the part of the User. Sorry, just hallucinated…

They should have posted this on April 1.

Your homework assignment is to study the horror movie Idiocracy, just because “it has electrolytes”.

Sorry. This has been going on — practically every single year — since before I was a child. I really do want to believe, just tired of being tricked, tickled & teased.

I want my Mr. Fusion!!!

You’re jumping the gun!

April is still a few weeks away

Mr Fusion should have been invented last year. That weird looking professor must have screwed something up. You know, that one carelessly flying back and forth in time, in that weird car. What a jerk.

That’s what you get when journalists want to attract attention, and don’t understand research. Doubtless we will see advances, but research papers usually ignore the practicalities of actually creating a viable product.

Very true, there is a new breakthrough almost every week, virtually all of them fizzle out and are never heard from again.

Somebody in the know recently explained why the Chinese do not have a large car export operation in progress. They said China is looking to the future and putting all their resources into electric car development, with a large portion of that development going into battery design. I suspect the recent price reduction of oil has put their plans on hold for a while but when they do go into full production it should be a good time for not only motorists but also anyone else that relies on battery power.

Right, the new Ford Ultrafire!!! With free hover board in the trunk. Maybe one can get you home……intact.

Technology and Ford in the same discussion, now there is an oxymoron.

I enjoy reading Science Fiction and Fantasy, so this story was good.

Whilst it’s true the Chinese are putting resources into electric cars, they certainly arnt putting all their resources into it, more likely a few percent, and they are putting far more into making ice cars more efficient.
As for export, Chinese car manufacturers have a huge home grown demand for their cars so export is probably not a huge priority, not to mention the fact many of their cars would not - without major changes - meet western safety requirements, not to mention ‘have you seen some of the Chinese cars, yuk ’ ,not really to western tastes.
That said they still exported nearly 2 million cars last year, mainly to developing countries.

So much like the article that started this thread, I wouldn’t hold my breath for any magical battery technology coming out of China anytime soon, probably just little improvements here and there to existing technology, just as it’s always been, unless of course they find another country who’s made a amazing battery technology breakthrough to steal it off lol

Chinese cars are unsafe by our standards, and a little bit rubbish. But ten years ago they were appalling. And given the current rate of improvement, in ten years time they will be competing head to head with Western, Japanese and Korean cars.

As for electric cars, the real problem is generating capacity. Were all UK drivers to switch to electric cars, our electricity grid would grind to a halt. As it is we are forecast to suffer blackouts next winter due to supply shortage. Oh, and the drop in tax from fuel would force Her Maj’s government to find a new source of tax, such as road charging.

After the war everything that came out of Japan was called Jap crap, and it was. They raised their standards and now produce world standard products. Korea’s first attempt at making cars produced similar rubbish but my last car was a Hyundai SUV and it was as good as any Euro car I have driven, including some of the big names. It won’t be long before China leads the world in the production of just about everything, they have the population, the work ethic, the infrastructure and ridiculously low wages and conditions. Western countries can’t compete with them, that is why so many manufacturers are sending their production over there.

Yup. At the moment they compete on price, but like China they will end up competing on quality. From what I know of Chinese, Japanese and Koreans, they work hard, and respect intelligence and education.
