Thanks for letting us know about the forthcoming S2+, you can put me down for getting one. I have loads of Convoy’s and always recommend them.

As for suggestions. I only have two:

-Driver. It would be awesome to have a moonlight mode on the Convoy lights. The current driver’s performance is perfectly fine, I know we all like hot rods, but the reality is 2.8amp is more than enough. But a low moonlight mode like the Qlite drivers offer at 5mA would make the Convoy lights so much more versatile as EDC’s

-LED options. I simply love the fact I can have a choice of LED tints. But it would be awesome to be able to have the same lights and drivers but with an XP-G2 or XP-L HI (I know the latter is probably more pricey). But XP-G2 in a tube light @ 2.8amp and good tint is an awesome combination.

Any idea what colour the Convoy logo will be on the tan version?

Hopefully it will have a matt finish, shiny anodizing would spoil the look.If Richard stocks these I’d be in for one with the new clip.

After doing some homework, my thinking is that a black oxide treatment on the existing stainless switch would be ideal. It doesn’t add thickness like paint, works well on stainless and has a proven track record on moving parts. Simon is setting things up at the factory to do a test run of black switches now. He thinks a black metal switch is odd but he is willing to give it a try.

Suggest you consider black PVD (physical vapour deposition) on the SS parts.

This is a superbly durable finish, and I think easily do-able in China. I’ve got lots of vaping stuff that’s coated with it, that cost very little.

And my wristwatch is black PVD on SS and flawless, after several years of hard use.

It’s also a “cool” thing for marketing to military types. Sounds much nicer than black oxide.

If anyone wants a particular colour, the secret to getting J-dub to suggest it is to relentless mention your preferred colour anytime he mentions an S2+

Seriously though, a safety orange would be pretty cool.
DeputyDave, would it be better on something like the F6 though, especially if the tail spike was made of a functional material that could break a window? Or is a functional window breaker still too gimmicky for preparedness people?

Not gimmicky at all. A tail end capable of breaking glass is always a plus and it opens the market up to professions that are first responders. I try to get as much gear as possible in a bright, safety orange whether it’s a light, zippo lighter, 550 paracord, match safe etc. I’d snap up an orange S2+ in an instant and I think a LOT of folks would as well.

From a SAR (search and rescue) or first responder standpoint orange is a standard. And also why I recommend beacon over strobe. You want to attract attention and while strobe is good for that, beacon would be better imo. And of course SOS gets the thumbs up. Basically beacon if you’re a responder giving your location to coordinate rescue and SOS if you are the one needing rescue and trying to attract attention. Not everyone knows SOS (but they should) but enough do to make it a positive feature.

At any rate, I’d spread the word on multiple sites if it were orange. I’ve already spread the word on the S2+ in-and-of-itself.

Actually no. I asked a long time ago but didn’t get a response. My suggestion was that the logo should be black to stick with the theme but Simon didn’t get back to me on that.

I don’t see bare polished aluminum as an option in the very near future but I wouldn’t rule it out long term.
What I can tell you is that there are two anodizing samples we are waiting on right now.

One of course is the matte finish desert tan color.

The other is clear, the desired result of which is the look of raw aluminum with the benefits of anodizing.

Now bringing the XPL-HI to the S2 with it’s slightly deeper reflector is under consideration if there is enough demand.

Yes! Please! I like to have some throw. All flood isn’t as useful outdoors imho. I’ve never really been happy that the S2+ is the one that has taken over.

If it’s possible to rework the S2 head, please consider extending the threads inside the head so that the pill could be screwed in all the way to the lens. Allows modders more freedom. You could do a triple TIR by just screwing the pill in further instead of needing a spacer slug. Then either add an extra long spring or cut down back end of the head to get a shorter light.
