lanterns on Amazon?

Just curious if anyone has purchased these lanterns from Amazon HERE . I was looking at getting them for a family member since they’re relatively inexpensive, but I don’t want something that’s crap.

i have bought clones of these at a local dollar store, ( called Dollarama) they sell a version named ” Voltax Lantern” for $3 dollars. They usually need modifications, as the LEDs re very “bluish tint” and lower output.

Ahh, I was afraid of that. I want two lanterns, run on AAs, variable output preferred…budget, of course. These aren’t them.

Thanks for the info.

They are ok but need the LEDs replaced with warm white 5mm Straw-hat LEDs. If you ok with doing your own soldering and mods, packs of 50 warm white 5mm “wide angle” LEDs can be found on ebay for a couple bucks, they make thee lanterns much better for output and much less blue glare on the eyes.

I think for the price, unless I can find them much cheaper somewhere else, I will look for a single LED lantern. I have plenty of warm LEDs sitting around that I could swap into another lantern. I’ll keep my eye open for one of those.

I have those that you mentioned and I would not recommend it. But I do have this one also and I do recommend this one!

great price! Lots of reviews over at CPF on it.

I have that same lantern too. The Rayovac Sportsman is definitely a better lantern in stock form, especially with the much better run times using D batteries. (or six eneloops using the AA-D carriers) it is also better quality and more durable.
the first thing i changed was the cool white LED to a higher CRI warm white.
