Convoy L6... XHP70 Beast!

Simon’s Cree affiliate should know all this. Shouldn’t be all that difficult to acquire the correct emitter IF the contact at Cree is worth his salt.

Yes. The Cree affilate should be able to interpret Cree’s LED articles into something intelligible and back.

The release of the Thorfire S70 couldn’t have helped.

Can tell me someone information about waterproof grade of future flashlight?
And may be someone know concrete information about release date?
One week before today Simon has said me that release will be after 1-2 weeks. So i’m waiting for april

This is the size and format I’ve been looking for. Hope it fits your needs.

Haha

Hello!
It has little bit bigger waterproof than i need
And little bit costly
And i just love design of L2 and L6
I just want to clarify - will it (L6) be at least IPX8-waterproof or not?

At $250 that Acebeam should be higher than IPX8! Sheesh. And yeah the L6 looks way better IMHO.
I’ve asked Simon to confirm but I believe it will be IPX8. We should be hearing news on the release very soon. I expected him to have the first sample by now but I haven’t heard anything yet. Simon is quite a busy guy though. He’s still getting settled in the new location so it’s a bit hectic.

The acebeam would exceed the water ingress rating of IPX8. It is listed as having a max depth of 150 meters or 500 feet.

When I hear waterproof I think diving light, everything else is just water resistant.

Exactly. 90% of the flashlights we talk about here are not waterproof unless we are specifically talking about a dive light. IPX8 is a good indication that if you drop your light in a puddle it’s going to be ok. I’m sure that Acebeam is quite waterproof which is why I was surprised only to see it rated as IPX8. Then again that rating system gets a little funny and IPX8 seems to mean anything from puddle-proof to true waterproof. :–5

I have too many lights, most are “Fun lights”. My serious work lights have to be IPX8. I’ve seen hot lights suck in water when getting immersed. Not listed as such but the better the water proofing the better it is to use in hazardous/flammable areas. All my serious lights have to survive 2 days at the bottom of a 7’ pool. I have used dive lights, interestingly not much in the manner of cooling fins but they tend to have at least twice the weight. TrustFire TR-DF003 was a light I used a lot, some serious work most camping fun light. Very heavy, very waterproof always worked which kind of surprised me.

so, as there’s nothing in the OP, I assume this still hasn’t surfaced for purchase yet?

Your assumption is correct.
I think we can expect some new info within 2 weeks.

^ what he said…

One step forward and two steps back…

There is good news and bad news my friends.

Good: Simon got the first sample of the L6. :GRADE:

Bad: They used the wrong side switch in the sample so it can’t handle the current? :weary:

So there are still a few things to be worked out before we can see some real progress but I can confirm that it sure is a good looking light! The L2’s big brother looks mean.

Down the barrel:

Enjoying the breeze:

Hanging out with some good friends:

So, while it’s not exactly what I wanted to report at least we have a few pictures to drool over until the time comes. :-}

Edit As a few have pointed out the side switch is an e-switch so does not carry any current. I don’t know exactly what Simon was referring to but it might be heat. He did mention long ago that the first switch they tried did not like the heat from the XHP70. Whatever the case it’s a small setback but all will be worked out.

Nice! Is the head significantly larger than the L2? I’m having a hard time to tell by the picture. Also, why would the side switch need to be high current?

Yeah, don’t understand that, the side switch is electronic and only supposed to switch modes through the MCU, not carry current. Somebody wired it up wrong it would seem.

Also, how does it compare with the Thorfire S70?

That monster looks awesome!

Really nice looking flashlight. Hope it won’t be pricier than S70.
