What did you mod today?

I put together my first triple
Blue S2+, illuminated tailcap (blue), BLF A6 driver, homemade copper spacer, triple Nichia 219C on Noctigon and Carclo 10507 optic. Both springs bypassed.
Incredibly bright, even with a Samsung 26H (tested at 5A max current on CPF).
I didn’t measured the tailcap current, my ammeter is not reliable at high currents.

Well done

I bored out the battery tube on my Xeno Cube triple to accommodate an Efest 16500 effectively doubling capacity.

Rofis JR20 triple

Still working on upgrading most of my EDC lights to triple XP-L HI

Jetbeam RRT-01 triple, Eagletac D25C Ti triple and Sunwayman V10R Ti triple

Really sweet mods !
That Xeno is sexy with its triple emmitters !

Love the lighted tail cap in the Convoy S2+, awesome!

Just installed the mcclicky kit that came in the mail this morning into a maglite tail cap.

This should be good enough right??? Haha time to make a cup of tea and head downstairs to play lathe.

Thank you, I made it with some 3mm LEDs (dremelled down ), and standard resistors. It’s a tight fit and had to try many differents values to find the compromise between good illumination and working modes (backward/forward is tricky when you add some resistors…)

Tried to upgrade the heat colored C8
Had LB led, no memory 5 mode driver
Warnted to use the AK47 driver with low cell protection 2 modegroups and a nice tinted XML.
Made a mistake and did not replace the wires banggood delivered the driver with.
So when cutting the wires to a better size after pressing it in the pill the red one came out.
No tools to push it out, it is very tight. Fear I need to use a nail and break the driver, then all I have is a A6 BLF fet driver.
So put it away and for easter we are going to paint some eggs.

Maratac Copper CR123 triple

1 Thank

Ok all done with the “MagClicky” mod. Looks better now.

I’m getting a reading of 4 ohms across the switch. Any thoughts on this? It seems a little high to me. I clipped a lead it the end of the spring and the other to the side of the cap.

Use a squared off toothpick or headless matchstick. You should be able to miss the components and pop it out without damage.

@Firelight- that’s a dsche quad. The cutter dtp quads aren’t available yet but they mentioned marketing them through MtnE.

Yesterday I decided to make a companion for the Mokume Sinner, to help in sizing a holster for the Mokume light and also give immediate access to spare cells. So I made a 2x18350 cell carrier that’s the same size as the Mokume light. Now I can make the holster in a more “square” configuration at about 2 1/2” wide x 3 1/2” high so a belt clip will fit behind it better.

Cut it from clear polycarbonate rod, 1” diameter. It was kind of fun boring it out, normally a bore that deep is a blind operation but the clear material enabled me to see the cutting tool and watch the chips stack making it easy to see when it needed clearing. The side walls at the cells are nearly 3.5mm thick, should be pretty impact resistant and will definitely help protect the 2 extra cells.

Dedomed XP-G2 S4 2B.
XP32 Noctigon MCPCB
2XR100 resistor mod.

719.640Cd (1.696m) at start.
709.200Cd (1.684m) at 30 seg.

Spot in low at 4m.

250m.

OMG! How in the world did you do that signature marking? Awesome!

No disrespect, but I find that 719Kcd difficult to believe. I’ve had mine (when I had one) at 500-600 and the spot is intense, even at just over 400 it threw across the Mississippi at Vicksburg. Probably deceptive though, as there is a lot of ambient light in that picture for sure. I know it’s very hard to reach those numbers, in ANY light.

I did the same thing with the 32mm Noctigon and XP-G2, found the driver very difficult to mod fully as it would peak over 8A and blow emitters at turn on, very frustrating for me to get the output limited just below ceiling. Finally traded it off.

Great work, love the writing, hoping you’ll share how you did that!

I used an electric engraver with carbide tip.

Thanks, gotta check into that. I’ve been using a very small carbide bit in my Proxxon that actually came from my Dentist! It’s prone to grab and bounce around as it’s 2 flutes.

Do you use the lowest or highest speed?

How do you go about laying it out on the light? Free hand it with a pencil first? Looks great!

I used the lowest speed. These are other engraved lights.

What a beautiful color that C8 came out! Awesome!
And every “Fatman” is exactly the same! How? Enquiring minds want to know!

Yes. Free hand it with a pencil first.

Sorry to be so full of questions, but does that engraver vibrate the tip or spin it?

We used to have one of those, I put my Dad’s DL number on everything decades ago! Where oh where has our engraver gone?
