yes, hence the reason for aiming at that pricepoint. if they can do it so can we
An integrated shelf is also a nice cost reductor compared to copper or brass screwins.
And as far as group buys, yes it is my first, however I do have some experience with dealing with Azian companies. This is my idea and basic design,
Asus was not keen om making it, but I was sure this would be a great idea.
If you keep the interest list in the second post, every single update of the list will generate update-mails to thread-subsribers and the updated-button in the recent posts page will direct to that 2nd post every time, instead of the really new posts.
Updates to the OP will not do that, so it is better to keep the list there.
Well the Supfire M6 for 40 USD is just the basic version, if you want the “pimped version” with higher output (4000 lumens) and better FW you must add another 50 USD!
I would not recommend to go for a lighted tailcap, but It would be great to have a choice of LED type (Nichia for the photographers and those who want the natural colors or Cree´s for maximum output)
Anyway i´m interested! I was tempted many times to get me such a can but resisted because I din´t want the cheap latticebright LEDs….
the only two main differences wth the original SRK are the integrated shelf and cell status via side witch.
We are basically asing Thorfire to make a new light, based on proven design, proven pularity, known sale of first batch. They can up the price for their own branded ones and have the best SRK available, we would recommend that instead of the Supfire.
I think whoever i going to build this light is offered a great deal but I would love to see a Happy box SRK arrive
One more idea from the peanut gallery. Probably not for this group buy, but maybe in the future. A “mini” SRK with 4P 14500 and 4x XPL HI V3 emitters! Integrated shelf should dissipate heat well enough. Smaller reflector size would ensure less throw, but who ever bought SRK for throw anyway? Sizing it down to 4x 14500 would make it pocketable, and with the 4x XPL HI V3 emitters, it would still be awesomely bright! A lot of the longer standing members already have SRK-size SRK’s (LOL), but the smaller size would make it unique, and possibly more would be on board for one. Then again, maybe I’m the only one.
One note about the size: the ratio of diameter/length of a 14500 is almost exactly the same as 18650, so the entire body design of the SRK could just be scaled down a bit and still look and function the same. Nothing new to design, really. Upgrade the driver and LEDs of course, just like we’re talking about here.
That form factor would be very very cool, I’m all for it, but I would not like to miss out the chance to make it 4S on Eneloops (+alkalines for backup): the energy density will be a little less, but the batteries are safe and available everywhere. And you have 4.8V nominal and great current capability (at 10A you still have over 4V to play with) to make it a real hotrod.
I’ll take one as long as it stays close to the original design and not get super complicated with several switches and a UI that requires a book or flow chart. I want to be able to turn it on (and it be bright) and off easily.
Thanks !!
And I like the idea to follow this up with a smaller baby (AA and 14500 cell) version when all goes well very much!
We should have a good relationship with the manufacterer/seller by then. But lets start here
And seeing how other groupbuys go, this may take some time, do not expect it in your hand anytime soon.
Could there be a ramping driver with this UI:
O 1 click on (on memorized brightness)
O double click hold second click ramping up from moon to turbo, release when brightness of choice is reached.
O triple click hold third click ramping down from turbo to moon, release when brightness of choice is reached.
This sounds like an awesome UI don’t you think?
