Welcome to BLF
You say 3 AAA cells now? There are holders for that.
f the cells are placed into one, you probably can use a 18650 now (maybe wth sleeve) or even 26650.
If you know about safety and have one just try it.

welcome to blf William.
what you have is a generic chinese clone “zoomie”.
and as you see the quality is highly variable.
its an ok “gateway drug” light though it got you here after all.
yes your first mod is to see if you can free up a few more mm by elininating a spacer, extra spring, ect to take a GOOD QUALITY 18650.
if it has fire in the name its not good quality and may be unsafe.
then head for mtnelectronics and get an upgrade led/mcpcb in tint you desire.its just 2 solder joints and minor dissasembly.
your initiation is complete!

If it’s fron Aldi, then it may well be decent quality. They have a lot of buying power. My coldframe was very very good, better than from the garden centre. By the way Wickes are selling some AAA, AA and C torches at modest prices, I have no idea if they are any good.

this is true.might be an above average unit.might even have a real cree led too….

Yes, It is of almost exactly the same design as the cheapo Ebay/Amazon flashlights that are pretty much all described as having XM-L2 LEDs when they usually have fake Crees, and if you’re lucky you’ll get an XR-E (And of course we can’t forget the measurements of Lumens are Chinese lumens)

I know what these feel like as my friend bought a couple just to see. The metal was of low quality.

Whilst the Aldi one has the same general design, I have to say it is of very good quality. I took apart the whole torch and the build quality is very good, and it has many O-Rings which give it the IP-65 rating.

I can also confirm it definitely has a Cree LED, and the specification lines up exactly with and XP-G R4.

Please see the attached images for beamshots and a closeup (as close as I could get) of the LED.

Thanks for your reply, sorry for not getting back sooner

Hi william102000. Welcome to the forum.

In 3AAA lights, I pretty much always use 18*500*’s, but I got a bunch from a laptop battery one time. Not sure if 18500’s are expensive to buy separate and I’m not aware of any current laptop’s that 18500-based batteries.
