Q8, PMS SEND TO THOSE WITH ISSUES BLF soda can light

The Q4 is not worked on now, we start with the Q8 and see how it goes.

I’m interested!

I was hoping the smaller version would be the “Sky Ray Queen!” :crown:

Definitely in for this.

I figured the name Sky Ray King probably is owned by somebody
Q8 and Q4 fit the Thorfire portfolio and the Q actually makes sense.

FWIW, when people name things after the cell type, they usually use the third digit (length), not the second (width). The usual convention is:

  • 1/2 = 10180 / 10280
  • 3 = 16340/18350
  • 4 = 10440 / AAA
  • 5 = 14500 / AA
  • 6 = 18650
  • 7 = 26700 / 32700 (26650 / 32650)

These are all in WWxLL.L form, 16mm x 34.0mm, 14mm x 50.0mm, 18mm x 65.0mm, etc. Except of course, many cells are actually a bit bigger due to the wrappers and button tops and protection circuits and such. And the naming scheme leaves out less popular cells like 18500.

The only instance I can think of when a company used ‘Q’ for quad was Zebralight’s never-produced Q50 — (Q)uad 14(5)00 rev (0). But I’m probably forgetting some other models. Here it was next to their SC600.

For the most part, their naming schemes are consistent… ish.

  • SC = single cell straight form factor / H = headlamp / Q = quad
  • 3/5/6 = cell type, first digit of length
  • extra 0 (usually) = bigger body with more throw (SC series) or pure mule beam (for H series)
  • final numeric digit = major revision of that model (usually, unless they added a “Mk II” or something to the end)
  • F = frosted lens / floody beam
  • w/c/d/r/b = beam tint (w = warmer, neutral white, c = high CRI warm, d = high CRI daylight, r = red, b = blue)

Anyway, just some examples of what other people are using.

I’ll join for one of each. Are you making the small 14500 model ?
Are they gonna look like Darth and Padme ?

QV8?

sorry for being annoying but again.
why not make baby SRK BLF runnig on 1*26650 instead of 4*14500

pros 26650

- provides more capacity

- provides more current

- cheaper than 4*14500

- thinner

  • torch body for 26650 is more simple

pros 14500

- shorter

  • torch can use 1/2/3/4 pcs 14500 (in fact i’m not sure what would be the reason to use baby srk with 3 or less 14500)

Definitely interested, whether 18650 or 14500.

You are clear and making valid points, hthus ontributing positively, thanks!
However
A single 26650 light is not to be seen as a baby SRK
A quad celled floody 14500 (AA) powered can be it.
But we focus on the Q8 for now and see how it goes.

Well about how others name their lights, it is up to them
VGxx / Sxx just to nae two series of Thorfire. Qx would fit in there.

I like the Q because quad LED, quad cell, quadrupel the output of modern SRK
I like the 8 since our BLF special should top the Supfire M6  and well there it an 8 in 18650
Q7 would do it too for me but thnking about saling it down later maybe and using a cell 14500 size made me propose the Q8 and Q4, I like it much ore then Q6 and Q5.

And we are just starting this project shoot with names, why not.

Moin,

great, I´m in.

Best regards

Chris

Hmm Toykeeper, it hit me
I hope for a AAA x4 and 26650 X7 to make a real nice set with the X5 and X6

So when we Q-team are able to get a real nice Q6 (the current project 18650 cells) followed by AA sized Q5, there could be a Q4 AAA and Q7 26650 light (I mean Palight Boss with good threads)

This is a nice phase where a lot of ideas can flow! Love it!

A good SkyRay King light would be a good idea, as the original SRK flashlights are now impossible to find. ( all the sellers have these days are crappy clones with crappy LB emitters, bad anodizing, bad drivers, etc.

Please add me on the list, and when this one is done and the little brother thread gets started sign me up…

Personally, I’d just focus on a QuadRay King — 4x18650 as basically a SRK with upgrades. This form factor hits a sweet spot, while all the others are somewhat more niche. But it sounds like that’s the plan, with a possibility of related lights coming later if there is enough interest.
